The £40k was in reference to the rally car thing from the US that the article said was $70k.
Maybe, but Jesus, how far north of £40k do you think anything with an Aston badge is going to be??

Don't get it.

The bloke said the £40k car was a turd. Didn't see any reference to AM.

The plan is for this to be all electric, like a Tesla not a hybrid, and four door. It's role is to bring down the marque's CO2 emissions. Aston Martin doesn't want to go down the Cygnet route again.

I don't know what it's for but I like it, which I find quite surprising.

I really quite like that, not sure why though!
You've recently taken a severe blow to the head? Best explanation I can come up with.

The "Cygnet route" was nothing to do with CO2 emissions and all about profit margins.

That's not what I was told at the factory a couple of weeks ago.

I wonder if this is SUV-y enough to appeal to e.g. X6 customers?

Interestingly enough, your question highlights the contrarian design principle that Aston Martin are hoping to leverage.

Apparently Aston want to be a bit "anti-" when it comes to bulbous SUV / CUV values. Thus the dominant "car" aesthetic in this concept.

I reckon it's a smart move on their part -- And the only way to make waves in a segment that has been well-developed (and harvested) by other brands before them.

I think the potential to blast along british B-Roads in an Aston Martin, without worrying about bottoming out the suspension is great.

And perhaps it was a rumour, but I heard that Aston Martin were thinking about entering into other forms of motorsport and were looking at entries in the WRC, Dakar or Baja events.

Something seriously Dakar/Baja inspired, but with a reasonably nicely-trimmed interior, would be far more desirable than either of these. For God's sake put a bloody Lagonda badge on it, though, not AM, which should all be low-slung GTs.

AM want to keep Lagonda for ultra-high brand: Rolls Royce/Maybech space. That's why the Rapide wasn't a Lagonda - I asked this question specifically.

Although the Taraf is, despite it basically being a LWB Rapide...
