Looks like something that would inspire a Paul Whitehouse sketch.

One of the golden rules of PH is not to try and give CC any advice he doesn't want to hear... so assuming that you haven't flounced off into the distance Mat don't click this spoiler:

Irish private plates look pretty cheap and nasty IMO.. and to be honest when I see one on something like an RR I'd automatically assume that it was an older car that someone was trying to hide the age on. Which generally means they give far too much of a st about what other people think about what people think about their car choice. Personally I drive a pretty ratty old Impreza and it's pretty safe to say that it has a st public image, that's not ideal really but I like the car too much for that to be a deal breaker. If anyone wanted an Irish plate because they liked the plate and didn't mind the negative opinions people formed as a result then I'd be cheering them on to do it. Someone who says they want it to give a certain impression which it most likely won't do probably shouldn't be doing it as it's a waste of money.

I had a Sierra XR4i when I was a student. It was cooler than me - and that's not saying very much.

I also owned a 11A 109 pick-up for those times when it made sense to be able to hose the back out.

Are Irish plates generally hated on?

I have AJI 6 on my car, was my dad's for over 20 years. He used to sell insurance, hence the I. I hardly see any similar style of plates around central Scotland. Obviously my plate has meaning to me but I think it looks pretty good?

Edit: Seeing as the video is now gone can anyone summarise it for me? biggrin

Enter, stage left, a bellend.

Bellend: Hello. I'm a bellend. I shall now proceed to behave like a bellend.

Bellend bellends.

Fin.

It wasn't that bad, more is being made of it than it really merits. Just the youthful OP (picture a long-haired, geeky-looking, spotty school boy sort of bloke) wearing a slightly naff jacket and sitting on his bed telling viewers what the correct chords to "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey was, and then proceeding to strum said chords.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, really, any more than any of us would be when we see a picture or video of ourselves as overly earnest but slightly awkward teenagers. I'm assuming the OP was 15 or something when the video was done. Some of the comments on here and elsewhere about the OP are a bit harsh I think - he makes himself an easy target and comes over as trying a bit to convey what he perceives as a fun, alternative personality, but I'm guessing he's a pleasant young bloke who needs a woman's touch to put him right.

Very succinct JAYB.

Has anyone questioned whether it is actually his RR? Not only is it a standard PH thing to do but I'm also a student of similar age and neither I nor anyone I know can afford to buy, fuel and insure a RR of that generation without a bit (or a lot!) of help from the parents. Just saying. Because this is PH no doubt I will be accused of just being jealous to ask such a question hehe

JAYB being a monumental thunder who can never have anything nice to say, as usual

Yes, it is my RR. Funded by selling my Discovery and the imminent sale of my steam engine. Costs less to run than the diesel Disco due to LPG being 50ppl where I fill up, and at £900 compared to the £600pa for the Disco is not that much more to insure either.
Still, haters gonna hate I suppose

Are you accusing me of insurance fraud/passing off someone else's car as mine? You can fk right off with that one.

That is MY car, registered in MY name and insured in MY name, and I have the paperwork to prove it
