I don't take chances; I have a Knog Blinder on pulse and a solid 1800 lumen cree main light (with a courteous beam spread, not into the eyes of oncoming traffic). To the rear I have a pair of LED lights, one flash, one solid with lasers. I also have another small LED light high up on the back of my helmet,
Here's just the solid rear on its own (you can see the other one just above it):
Funk, I considered those lazer lanes last winter. Do you notice cars etc giving you more room at night? Here's just the solid rear on its own (you can see the other one just above it):

So frustrating seeing the cam car sat in the outside lane while making no progress on the car in lane 1. He must have been blocking the BWM overtake on purpose rather than just being unaware of his positioning.
EDIT just read the video description, he said there was a car in lane 1 stopping him moving back over. He should have put his foot down a little to get passed then pulled in sooner.
The camcar is an MLM. When there is no middle lane, MLMs use (i.e. cruise in) Lane 2 of 2 (as here) or Lane 3 of 4.EDIT just read the video description, he said there was a car in lane 1 stopping him moving back over. He should have put his foot down a little to get passed then pulled in sooner.

What a liar.

Theres a common theme running through these which Ive highlighted on previous pages. Its this failure in duty to avoid.
You may have right of way, and you may like to have it written on your tombstone in confirmation, but if someone else makes a mistake you also have a duty to try to avoid. It's common sense and should be automatic.
This'll continue as long as we keep trying to attribute fault rather who made a mistake. What contributed to these collisions? It takes two to tango.
Excellent post! You may have right of way, and you may like to have it written on your tombstone in confirmation, but if someone else makes a mistake you also have a duty to try to avoid. It's common sense and should be automatic.

A large part of trying to be a good driver/road user is driving/riding defensively, reading the road and other road users.

When I go out at night with my 800lumen lights I get cars flashing their main beams at me constantly, even though I've set them to be the sake spread as my car lights. You can't win as a cyclist and in this case it's 100% the driver not judging the speed of the cyclist correctly. You don't need bright flashy lights to be seen at night either, otherwise every pedestrian out at night crossing a road would have been killed by now.

when I used to both motorbike and cycle, I DIY'd some lights on the end of the handle bars, showing white forwards and red behind. Gave some width to the bike/motorbike to help with depth perception of other motorists.
worth a thought anyhow.

However careful you are, you're probably being sworn at by chavvy idiots from inside their cars all the time because they think they're right and you're somehow wrong.
A lot of these idiots seem to be local to me. This is another pair coming off the M62 and down the M66, one driving a small horse box.

Just before the end the dash cam car seems a tad close to the horse box, how on earth can he see beyond it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf8HPJm6jTE
Pair of idiots, what did the Merc think he could do if he had stopped the horsebox driver, who was a total prick weaving like that. Two wrongs dont make a right. If he honestly didnt see the merc when he initially pulled over, should have let the Merc pass him and carry on.
Did he get caught, guess not.

That's easily the best bike light setup I've ever seen. Can we force everyone to use this? I use too many lights on mine but nothing as cool as that. Here's just the solid rear on its own (you can see the other one just above it):
A bit off-topic but not worth creating a new thread for really and I suppose it's relevant to the conversation of cyclist visibility... Also: my thread so nurr.
Some pics of the full set, sorry for hugeness:
Rear with both lights:

I like the laser thing because....well...frickin' lasers. Also because anything that makes me more visibile is good. I'm not sure how visible the lasers actually are from behind, I'd need to get someone else to ride it. I'd suspect that under street lights they're probably almost invisible but on a dark road they might show up. I really have two lights to ensure that if a battery goes I at least have something showing.
For the sake of a few quid it's well worth it.

M62 just putting cones out for four lanes into one, motorway worker just shunting cones into lane 3 at the end of the video.
Nothing much until 45s, just showing how much warning drivers have that the lanes are closing on the left.
I move over early, but keep distance from car in front as they will have to move over. Nothing coming up behind me.
Car in front of them (from 45s) almost drives into roadworker who's moving the cones over, rather than move into 4th lane.
You can see why motorway workers have a dangerous job.
You can see the car in front of me, so I guess the car in front of them almost ran over the cone
You can also see how much they slowed down from 50mph by the distance the HGV in front of them covered - slow down to squeeze past cones in lane 3, rather than keep speed and move into lane 4

Utter tttery. How can something so simple be so hard for some.M62 just putting cones out for four lanes into one, motorway worker just shunting cones into lane 3 at the end of the video.

I take it you never drive on the motorways through the night then? The above is exactly what 95% of the driving population do when faced with a lane closure and some cones. I've actually given up downloading the footage from my Mobius as it happens so often now.

Observing a friend who is dreadful behind the wheel who I'd suspect to do the above, I blame it on sat navs, meaning people no longer look at road signs.

They've kept the overhead gantries live It looks as though that black car in front is trying to go left and 'confused' by the cones. The last thing they want to do is miss their turn off.
They need to bag over the gantries and put a left turn sign once everyone's safely in the coned off section
Easy
I reckon I might have made it onto some angry biker-style helmet cam compilation this morning. 5mph in traffic, I switched lanes and there was a biker in my blindspot who I saw before moving; genuinely nowhere near him, then could hear him F'ing and blinding at me. A complete non-event, made into an event purely because he had a camera strapped to his bonce.
