Please get off our roads.

It's a very common thing for bad drivers to do. I see it every few hours of motorway driving. Given the trucker had identified the bad driver, and the bad driver was running in the hard shoulder (legally), and there was a junction coming up where they would be filtered off. This all adds up to a very good chance that it'll swerve into lane 1.

If you spend any time on motorways either improve your anticipation. Or please get off them. Because otherwise you are as dangerous as the car driver.
Don't get too excited. Firstly, there's no point to this line of conversation 'cos it's not relevant to anything, nothing happened as a result of the car leaving or staying on the m'way.
Probably because the trucker had anticipated the cars action. Like every competent driver. Yes he swore because he then had to brake etc. But that doesn't mean he hadn't anticipated it and hence was ready to act and swear.

It's my opinion that anybody with a driving licence should have anticipated that car doing that manoeuvre after observing the car and the environment it was in. And anybody who didn't, and also refuses to learn from that, really shouldn't be on the road.

Part of being a competent driver is precisely that: to account and make allowances for other people's mistakes.

But it's not an excuse for crap driving.

No; I didn't mean to imply that it was.

I see that most days, although usually not on roads like that! More often on little side roads where the cyclist is a danger to pedestrians rather than being at so much risk himself from cars.

Whoever slowed down to film that cyclist is as big an idiot as the cyclist. When you see someone doing something stupid like that, you want to get as far away form them as possible as quickly as possible, not hang just behind them as they weave in and out of their lane waiting for them to fall off and disappear under your van.

I agree, I'd have gone through red lights and ridden along pavements just to make sure.

(Except that the phrase is 'as big a', not as 'as bigger'... That said, I quite like your version smile )

Eh??????? The cyclist was all over the road, even across the lane marker at one point, so the car held back until the cyclist regained control, the car had traffic on his other side, waited for a gap, then still gave the cyclist a wide swerve just in case!

The difference between this and the cereal incident is that obviously the texting affected the cycling - which is irrefutably an offence of careless/inconsiderate cycling.

Well, to try and avoid another 10 page cycling discussion...

This happened on the way home today. I warn you now it's not the most exciting clip, however watching it back made me think that
  • A. I probably should've stayed in L1 longer.
  • B. The second Fire Engines planning was poor
The general gist is that I heard the first Fire Engine as I came over the junction flyover and spotted it in my mirrors coming up the slip road, so moved over to L1. After a few seconds I spotted the second one (Lights going but no siren initially) but it moved to L3 so I thought great, I'll make use of L2 and overtake the car in front. Unfortunately the car in front had the same idea so I effectively ended up moving out for no reason. At this point I decided to hold station until the FE was past, hence slowing again (I'm well aware I will get told I'm a MLM biggrin but at the time it seemed the best option, there was a car behind in L1 too, as can be seen when they exit at the same exit as the Fire Engine.) The other reason for staying out is that there are often cars joining at that slip and it's a short slip with a fairly tight curve on the entrance meaning cars are often slow joining there.

In hindsight I should have stayed in L1 until both Engines had passed me, but I also think the second Fire Engine's planning was poor to end up cutting across all the lanes to exit (following his colleague rather than thinking for himself?)

Anyway, enough waffle, here's the vid:

Slows down to film the stupid cyclist, even adjusts their positioning so the cyclist remains in frame. Then has to gun it to try and make it through the lights before they change, fails, instant karma.

So bikes are allowed to pass the compulsory stop signs (Red X, flashing lights) and are allowed on the hard shoulder to pass stopped traffic?
