I would have (kind of) understood the move if he went onto an empty road, but he went straight into another queue of stationary traffic?
Really?

I don't think it matters what is on the other side of a red light. It's a red light, you stop.
I meant his motivation for the move, why he thought it was a good idea going through the red light. I was not condoning it.

At lunchtime today I got stuck in roadworks and the car in front stopped the moment it went to amber much to my annoyance. The car behind me, however, decided they were not going to wait - wish I had a camera so I could have posted it here wink

I would guess:
A)He knows the light phasing and is unlikely to make it through.
B)He knows that rolling at a constant speed rather than stop start is more mechanically sympathetic.
C)He knows that rolling at a constant speed actually increases traffic flow on the roads.
D)Leaving a reasonable gap allows him to spend more time rolling at a constant speed than following 2 ft off the bumper of the car in front.
Well said.. especially as I was smashed in the rear last week by somebody who felt driving inches from my rear was OK.

Car was at Audi yesterday getting a service, so thought I'd dive on to see that all was OK and there was no high speeds or burn outs.

Looks like the tech guy had a close call hehe

Why are you not keeping up with the flow of traffic? If everyone left gaps like that, ques would be miles long. tongue out

This kinds of sums it up. I'm not commuting per se, but do go that way at that time often as I was on the nursery run.

I was in no rush, and you can never cruise those lights on green, you always hit the red!

Oh, and often, traffic permitting, on that road, my 3 year old shouts 'faster, louder daddy. Faster louder' hehe

Subsequently I'm often leaving gaps to accelerate into to give the nipper the feeling of the kick down and to listen to the noise. biggrin not that smart I know and not something I'd do with the gap in the video, but habit and all that!!

One from my commute home tonight.

https://youtu.be/52jdAdB3oTM

This pair decided to suddenly stop on a busy stretch of road (M80 to M8 merge) at rush hour to shout at each other, then move across to the hard shoulder to have a fight. As always the footage makes objects appear further away, I had to brake very hard to avoid running into the back of the Mondeo.

Short video but that's all I captured.

Wow, that is seriously bad driving.
It sure is but this quote from the rider does make me wonder:

“It’s happened several times and I have quite a few videos I have built up. It’s quite a collection but this is by far the worst event. It’s a 20mph section of road. I consider it an appalling standard of driving.”

He said he suspects the driver thought he had been ‘dawdling’. “I don’t speed,” he said.

“Coming to work I have had people driving right behind me, flashing their lights and doing all sorts of things. This is not the first incident. So I thought I would attach a camera."

We've all had the odd tailgater but clearly his riding is regularly out of sync with other road users and I can't help thinking he's likely to be a bit of a road captain.

quite a few 20mph zones in Manchester on road like that matey.

There's one than goes from Rusholme to the princess express way that you'd swear is a 30mph limit, and 40mph in quiet times could be gotten away with, newp, its a 20mph zone.

Most people break those 20 limits

He does not want to

it's a sign that the speed limit is set too low. We were fortunate that Worthing council listened to the residents when we voted overwhelmingly against 20mph limits.

It also occurs around the 20mph limits in my home town, but my opinion is that people don't believe this is compulsory.

What a fking mong. Worst is, I bet they don't even know what they've done. I assume they take all junctions like that when there is a left turn green light followed by a give way.

I wonder why we bother with cycle boxes when they do this? If cyclists want us car drivers to behave then they should damn well keep to the rules themselves!

What a waste of paint and coloured tarmac.
