That road layout is insane. I can see why the woman thought she had priority/ didn't see the van. Not saying she was in the right, but what a stupid layout.
Whats stupid about it? At the end of the day it's still a roundabout whether the lights are working or not.skip_1 said:
Now this is a near miss. I reckon that I should have slowed further for the traffic lights being out, although they seem to be part time so wasn't sure they were definitely out. Thank goodness for ABS as there was inches from my fully loaded Transit battering this woman's side door in. (She didn't even notice until I locked up!).

Wow you did pretty well to miss her! What an idiot. http://youtu.be/NNhvEH4w_ps
No sound due to bad language used under duress (of surprise)
Any particular reason you seem to have filmed that on a calculator?

Whats stupid about it? At the end of the day it's still a roundabout whether the lights are working or not.Because it's traffic light controlled and the lights are out of action due to the roadworks. The signals there haven't been part time for years. The OP is confused. Like any other roundabout you have to give way to traffic already on it unless signals say otherwise.

Luckily I caught her in my peripheral vision.Any particular reason you seem to have filmed that on a calculator?
Camera is a Mobius so good quality, but unfortunately in van it's mounted to the dash by bluetac so quality is affected by the large expanse of dash and the really dirty screen. (If you put on HD in Youtube you can read the No. plate though ). I really need a spare holder for the van.

Just to add the lights have been in and out of operation for about a year whilst the roundabout improvements have been made. Seemingly they are no on full time (mostly). Looking today there are no give way lines, but there are stop lines at the light positions further back on the off-slip.
In many places what you think is a roundabout isn't a roundabout at all. The local highways will refer to it as a gyratory system, a sequence of junctions one after the one in a sort of circular layout. They sometimes dont know what to do with solid stop lines and give way lines. If there are no stop lines in line with the lights, they may not be enforcable. But does it matter if they're just advisory?
Sometimes the positioning of the lights on the 'roundabout' is such that users drive through them thinking not meant for them, and sometimes the opposite, they stop at a red light thats merely a repeater of one for traffic on the approach road.
If the slip in the video has no stop line, no give way line and no working traffic light, it's no wonder that someone bundles along there without realising they should stop or give way. Either that or they think they have priority anyway as theyre on the main road and the OP is turning into it.
Complete mess

Did you not bother to read what he wrote? If you had then you wouldn't have needed to waste 10 mins writing all that irrelevant waffle. They sometimes dont know what to do with solid stop lines and give way lines. I think jazzy sometimes you're waiting to create an argument where none exists Anyway I was concurring with him and with ORD earlier saying the road layout is insane, hence the smiley at the end
ETA
Reading it again you may take me the wrong way about the stop line though
I realise he said here there's no stop line but I've included that here since if there is a stop line but no traffic light or stop sign it's not going to work as a stop line anyway, as the video shows.

I think jazzy sometimes you're waiting to create an argument where none exists Why do so many people on PH think it's OK to be so rude and aggressive? If you spoke to someone like that in person you'd probably end up being punched in the mouth.

You can see here when you get to what looks like a junction
there's no obvious give way line or stop line for traffic from the left
The real point is about the lack of give way lines and who should give way to who.
The Highway Code is pretty clear on it

Because the guy is a knob and talks ste and in addition to that has demonstrated that he can't read either. He says that skip has said there's no stop line when his post says the complete opposite :

And I guessed right when I said jazzy probably hadn't understood what I meant at the time about the stop line. Why do so many people on PH think it's OK to be so rude and aggressive? If you spoke to someone like that in person you'd probably end up being punched in the mouth.

The stop lines are at the traffic lights, just as skip_1 said. Just because you can't see them in the video doesn't mean they're not there. I use the junction (M1 J41) nearly every day and I can assure you they are there.
I know but first up as there are no working lights with them they dont operate as stop lines
and second, if theyre that far back from the juntion theyre out of shot, theyre going to have little relevance to the junction
Anyway as we can see from the vid that's what's happened.
The car driver has gone through as if theres no junction and without realising they might need to give way. The guy with the camera is slightly behind and has given way (otherwise as he says, he'd have driven into the car door)
The road layout often comes up as a factor in these threads
