That saying doesn't really work when you include a word that shows you disagree with it.

Every car pictured in this thread has looked utterly ridiculous.

There was a thread about this in the past with loads and loads of different examples and they all looked ste.

Too each their own sadly.
I'm sure you drive a great looking car with some lovely standard features wink your right it is each to their own not sadly, but thankfully I for one like individualism it's the reason PH came to be.

While I don't like every photo on here I can still appreciate why they've done it.

So what is your idea of nice? What is it you drive? Why are you so bitter? If your car is standard you do know you can change that spin

Much nicer IMO than any of the M3 wheels.

Mine is completely standard and would stay that way, as you say you can change it if that's your thing. I just think the wheels the car originally comes with always look better (even if they're bad wheels) and wheels from the same manufacturer but a different model never look good. Aftermarket wheels (BBS LM or CH's for example do work on certain cars but I'd almost always keep a car standard, I hate it when the head unit gets changed and yet adverts still say a car is standard, but that's just me). Wheels are very subjective things of course but they're usually designed to fit with a certain car and just look odd on something else.

FWIW I drive a current shape Ibiza, nothing spectacular of course, just an A to B motor though it does have a nice set of alloys. I suppose the done thing would be to stick some Bentley wheels on it for that VAG authenticity. I can't think of anything worse.

The local window tinting place has two VW vans with lamborghini and Bentley wheels. They certainly stand out for advertising.

As much of a fan as I am of throwing stars, I have to say that Contours are the right choice for the E36 saloon

I suspect there is a fair amount of pre-held bias from many coming into this thread, as (rightly or wrongly) the 'wrong OE wheels' thing is regarded as primarily a VW fanboy/ VAG/ Dubber habit. Maybe it did originate in Jap 80s cars, but the worst crimes re wrong OE wheels do seem to be with VAG cars nowadays imho. Whether it's down to the universality of fitment or the type of individual drawn to that scene... probably a bit of both.

I personally dislike 'Dubber' (or similar) type cars, but don't dislike the guys who do it- was just never my scene. I'm 33 now, so am probably afew years too old to have got caught up in it. People with stickerbombs/ bonnet bras etc are probably not good human beings however- it is possible to be a Dubber and not a total c*nt. If I see an eg. Lupo/ Polo slammed on wrong OE wheels, I simply assume the driver is a youth/ student who's motoring taste has yet to mature to a point that can be considered 'good'. A grown-up driving such a car is a different matter all together...

I'd also say that a car on 'wrong' OE wheels is generally going to be preferable to something on naff aftermarket wheels. Brands like OZ, Work/ Rays etc are obviously another story, as there is some good functional engineering there in comparison to a Halfords wheel & tyre package. Seems obvious, but many people (non PHers mainly) don't make much distinction between aftermarket wheel brands. There are only afew aftermarket wheel manufacturers that are acceptable to me, so 'wrong OE' seem like the lesser of two evils.

As far as stuff posted thus far, some work and some don't. I'd disagree that 99% look sh*t, but acknowledge that the majority are somewhat.... misjudged. I feel that wrong OE wheels are easier to excuse if a car can 'justify' them to some extent, ie. a fast Audi estate on those 5-spoke 911 wheels gets a pass because it has the performance pedigree to go along with them. Bentley wheels on a Golf (or even those A4 Cabrios) are just pure 'scene' to me.

BMW X5 wheels on anything non-X5 just don't make sense. Viewed an otherwise perfect E65 7-series once, the inappropriate X5 wheels are the only reason I walked away- couldn't live with the idea of like-minded petrolheads seeing it and thinking 'X5 wheels, really?'.

As far as out-there, OTT OE wheels go, Im amazed that (AFAIK) no-one has posted the mk5 Golf wearing Lamborghini wheels/ brakes yet. That's a perfect high-end example of 'wrong OE wheels' to me. Wheels so big/ wide as to make handling worse, brakes no doubt utter overkill regardless of level of engine tune. Just pure scene pandering, a mod done solely so people on OC threads/ at meets can be out-wheeled and fawn over your sick 'Lambo rimz'. Imagine the fella turning up at the meet in his Continental GT-wheeled Golf, only to have Lambo boy park up next to him. That's what it's all about at that level imho.

There is also an element of mis-badging going on. Much like people who stick a Bentley-style grille/ badges on a Chrysler 300C, it can come across like your 'pretending'. Audi wheels on a VW is the most common, and perhaps least upsetting example. Porsche/ Bentley wheels on a VW (W12 Phaeton being a possible exception) are somewhat more irksome...

Turns out they run both their vans on lambo wheels now, hard to see the van behind on the black ones but the green gallardo wheels really stand out. Not really a fan of "dubbing" myself, but can appreciate a nice set of wheels and can see how it helps with their customer base haha

Judging anyone based on choice of car, wheel or modifications is silly. To say people who stickerbomb are probably not good human beings is daft.

Least upsetting example! Why would anyone's choice of wheels upset you?

Can I suggest that you get a grip biggrin

Good call. I wonder where the wheels come from. Seeing spare parts prices, a set of Bentley wheels is probably the price of a small new car.

I think some people really seem to have the wrong idea of OEM+, it's meant to be subtle
there is nothing subtle about having 4 big bentley badges on something which clearly isn't a bently, but it seems to be a thing

They would probably look fine if the cap badge were removed or replaced with an audi one
I have Merc ML 17's on my VW T4 I think it's funny that something as simple as Merc centre caps confuse people.

It wasn't done for that reason, I wanted a better drive and the ML wheels are one of the few that will fit and are suitably load rated.

I like the look but I suspect the X5 wheels weigh far more than the OEM Z4 wheels which makes it a downgrade IMO.
