In fairness the cam belt is 100k/ 10 years.
I've done a couple services on the V6 diesel and nothing was difficult. That age also has the easy to change wheel bearings that simply unbolt.

Even I'm tempted now! Will this thread cause a spike in values?

Of the big petrol engines, is the 3.2 or the 2.8T the better bet?

I'm always surprised that the Signum didn't do better on the market. The squared off boot of the Vectra was it's least appealing exterior design feature and the UK loves estate cars. You'd have thought it would be a shoo-in for sales, saying as the Vectra never had any trouble selling.

I don't think it were cheap back then, it was aimed a sector above the Vectra and at those heady heights VAG/BMW were in their stride.... interior design and materials were woefully short of the expected, let alone the drving experience, but for me back then I tinkered, lowered an chipped it....rare and left field that's why it appealed smile
So concept? 10/10
Execution.......

....Anyway it didn't help that Fiat released their own version...the Croma.

So you've been in a taxi thats been round the world and back, therefore all Vauxhalls have dodgy build quality? Do you not think that maybe, just maybe a taxi isn't quite representative of the general build quality ?
A - the Signum looks much closer to the newer Astra hatch made approximately 2004-2010.

B - the taxi in question was pretty new then and hadn't had a chance to get worn out.

Nice car, I really like that and definately one for this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

As I posted in that thread, me and the missus managed to snag what we feel is a relative bargain, a Vectra 3.2 V6 Elite, manual. We picked it up for a smidge over a £1k with 80k miles on it, full service history, towbar, parking sensors, CD changer, etc. It hasn't skipped a beat although it does like a sip or two of the old go-go juice around town!

Crappy obligatory photo

I'm a fan of quick Vauxhalls and not ashamed to admit it smile

There is a family resemblance, just the same as most as most manufacturers run through their model range. It looks a little bit like a corsa too. But this doesn't support your assertion that the signum is a "bloated astra". Its got nothing to do with an astra.

besides, they do differ quite substantially from various angles.

As far as I knew it shared only one thing with the mark 4:

stretch the side DLO et voila, the only significant link.

and the mark 5:

stretch that side DLO also, and share the general taught flank surface treatment....

In all honesty I too was approached by a couple of people who didn't know their cars asking about my 'Astra'. When corrected they admitted they knew nothing about it or cars in general.

Also as yours is the Auto there's no mega expensive clutch upgrade to worry about (not a lot available anyway to take the torque as you go above stage 3) so by adding a bigger IC, 3" DP plus another stage3+ map (free) your at 350/360hp & 450-460ft/lbs wink

Worth a look anyway smile
This x100, the auto boxes on these are beefy and can handle it. For under £800 you will be scaring 335's and 355's biggrin

Do it

Saw a Signum with an Irmscher front end earlier.

Should have taken a pic.

This again, i'm not a stalker griffin dai, promise, the 3.2 is a lovely engine but the 2.8 is just a bloody missile once breathed on. Same running costs. The 2.8, Holden, single turbo placed in the engine bay where it can be got at easily, just a no brainer.

Just make sure to change the gearbox fluid more regularly than the 50k (iirc) specified in the service book.

It's the AF40 6-speeder, aka Aisin TF-80SC, and is supposed to take a maximum torque of 450Nm (330lbft). But lots of autos have been remapped to silly torque figures without issue, just keep the fluid changes more regular and it's all good thumbup

Remap and a pre-cat decat and you're good to go!

Stateside has seen this engine with stock internals but bigger turbo and fuelling make 488whp through a manual box. Assuming 12% loss for FWD, that's over 550bhp...

Exactly. An A3 Sportback is barely distinguishable from an A4 Avant. Car design in general has got far too generic. The Insignia estate is quite a nice-looking thing, though, albeit at the cost of practicality and visibility.

Close enough, and it's still the same shape as the Astra. The exec market doesn't buy bloated photocopies of C-segment hatches.

Had two at one stage, a 2.8T and 1.9dti. Great cars, got the Turbo chipped with the VXR map. Went like stink but bad torque steer.
