£70k is a lot of money for a Lotus. I'd have a Corvette or a Cayman GT4 for that with change...

Agree with some of the comments above regarding cruise control. It's just another tool that aids in disconnecting the driver from his/her primary role - driving.

Good that it's not standard equipment.
I disagree - I would rather have my eyes looking outside for potential hazards than glancing down to check speed all the time.
Sure it's not appropriate for some places and some people don't use it as an aid but a crutch for poor driving. Doesn't mean you need to ban it.
I wonder if it has caused/contributed to more accidents than it's prevented...

65k is a lot for a Cayman, I'd have an Exige for that with change.

And back on topic, I think this new Evora does look pretty good - the styling has definitely grown on me and looks more 'baby-supercar' now.

I looked at an early Evora before I bought the 370Z, but still found it too raw and low-rent inside for a daily with that sort of price tag.

However, I believe later cars are much better built and more luxurious inside. Will be interesting to see how the new one shapes up.

if £65k is a lot for a Cayman what is a £72k Evora all about ?

I like the new Evora, maybe not the max power looks but it's good to see 400bhp and not just a 10bhp gain like Porsche do every time.
but it's still 100kg over weight, roll on the CUP one.

shame it's £10k to expensive though, so GT4 it is for me.

About £1500 cheaper than (50bhp less powerful) entry level Porsche 2+2. Cayman is a class below, starting from just under 40k.

This is around 10 times more expensive than some of the very best E30's available, (Not counting the M3). Why someone would buy this over an E30 just amazes me.

Why would you ever want cruise control on a sports car. In fact I'll go further and say why would you ever want cruise control in this country.

Its almost impossible to use cruise control on any road in the british isle without constantly have to play about with it to adjust the speed.

Unless its one of those clever BMW/MERC adaptive cruise conrol that locks onto the car in front I really can't see its any use.
confused I use cruise control for at least half of my commute - A34, A303 and M3. I just have it locked onto one speed the whole time and never change it. You need to time your lane changes etc, but I find that it's very useful. It's particularly good if you're like me and have long legs, as it gives your right ankle and knee a break.

Cruise control is worse for mpg - one of the worst things you can do for MPG is to keep a constant speed when going up 'n' down gradients.

Jesus , Britain launches a 400bhp junior supercar and the thread is taken over by cruise control and the cost in relation to ancient M3's.
You couldn't make it up.

I don't get it either. We could all come up with alternative second hand cars which are a lot cheaper and could probably come up with something a lot more relevant to the 2+2 mid engine Evora than an E30 BMW WTF??!! You either want the cruise and pay for it or you don't, £300 isn't going kill anyone who's speccing one up. Hopefully claims of greatly increased build quality hold up and it can fully justify it's asking price, it certainly would appear that performance isn't going to be lacking!

As I've said before- at least you can buy an Evora right now and not have to wait 3 years for a GT4.
Although at closer to £80k with options the Evora is going to need all the help it can get.

Pistonheads is a wonderful place. You need no qualifications or credentials to get in, and they let anyone post anything their cute little brains come up with on the internet.

Most are not and will never be in a position to buy one, but by goodness they will exercise their right to tell everyone their opinion.

Anyway - Evora. It looks good. Personally I'd just tick the cruise control option. Why wouldn't you? Luckily any British Isles based view on cruise control is invalidated if the M25 is mentioned. The north part of the M25 is still the south east. Sometimes people who like to drive sports cars enthusiastically also like to cruise in a non-fatiguing manner from one point to another, where they might want to have the sports car when they arrive there - just incase the cutibrains assume that long journeys should only ever be done in a diesel Laguna.

As for Porsche pricing - who cares? As with F-Type pricing - who actually cares how it compares with a Porsche? There are plenty who would gladly pay extra not to have the default mid-life crisis sportscar for people who don't know enough about sportscars to choose one they like for themselves.

Good on Lotus for building this. I hope it does well.

In this day and age I think on a 72k car not fitting cruise control is a bit silly in that it draw attention to the fact. It would be better to charge 72,300 with an option for cruise control delete.
Sounds like the sensible thing to do, right? Meanwhile, the status quo is something that makes you wonder if an engineer, and not a marketer, came up with the pricing.

While I'm here, I'll just add that the redesign is growing on me. I'm more open to it, after seeing more photos. The price is still more than a bother.

I like the spec but I think they messed about with the design too much. The original was a lot prettier.

It's also been part of the Touring Pack options bundle on the Elise for four or five years, so it's daft not to at least offer it on the flagship model.
