Just wondered what cars can be remapped easily to release more bhp without major mods.

S4 3.0 Supercharged remap takes from 333 to 400bhp +

Volvo 480 turbo went 60+ bhp with chip

Golf gti ed seem to remap to 300+

Anymore?

Fiat Grande Punto T-Jet.

Same Engine as fitted to the Abarth, although slightly different injectors.

120hp, remap sees around 155, around a 30% increase.

BMW 118D shares an engine with the 125D - if all parts are identical (doubtful) it could go from 150bhp to 224bhp.

Pretty much any car with a turbo will see good gains from a generic remap

Alfa Romeo 1.9JTDm 8 valve is massively detuned as standard and can see a 50% increase in power with a good remap.

Aren't all the 4-cyl BMW diesels the same 2-litre block (and the 6-cyls the same 3-litre)?

IIRC the Audi TT RS responds VERY well with a remap. I seem to recall almost supercar numbers being banded around... happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though.

Might just be an internet myth....

The same block, I think. No idea about cams, manifolds, etc.

The ealier Mini Ones (90 bhp) and Coopers (115 ish bhp) were different only by a map.

Rover 200 80 bhp and 105 just had a different throttle body, we swapped my mums over with the old one from my BRM (that had a modified one) and it made a difference, the old one just had a throttle stop that didnt allow full throttle.

I read the other day, and I am not sure how true this is, but the F type V6's, S and normal share the same engine but differ in mapping, the 340 maps to 400 and the 380 to 400 as well, I didnt realise they were bother supercharged, thought the normal V6 was N/A and only the S was supercharged, so, if this is correct a base model owner can grab a good lump of power extra for a grand or so. I appreciate there are other differences as well, like the final drive ratio but it is quite interesting.

Saab were legends for this, there is a detuned 9-3 that I believe that will gain almost 100 bhp, can anyone confirm ?

Certainly can see the 150 bhp goes to 220, that is a huge increase, I have a mate with one but he is being a big girls blouse about getting it done, £100 or so for an extra 70 bhp, worlds best bhp/£ increase !

I can second that one, I had mine remapped and it was almost an entirely different car. The 2.4JTDm is also supposed to be a bit of a weapon after a remap.

Any other supporting mods? Like droppping a x30d engine in at the same time?
Is your mate Jay from the Inbetweeners?
