I had the previous C63 and now have the new C250 AMG line. I much prefer the styling of the new car both inside and out. The previous one had a crap interior and the outside was a bit dodgy also (apart from the obvious amg and 6.3 badges!!). I really miss the ridiculous nature of the C63 so will check this one out and see if its worth upgrading.

Whilst Im sure it's a great car to drive (i have a test drive booked in one next week, so will find out), I can't understand why they can't take a leaf out of BMW and Audi's book and make the fastest model look a lot less like the slowest model
There's no way you'd confuse and M3/4 with a 320d and the same can be said for how the RS4 looks so much better than the regular A4's
I'm sure it's 10/10 for engineering, but I'd want to look a lot less like jo blogs sales rep in his C200
I don't disagree with your comments but do they still have sales reps and do they drive Mercedes? I thought they drove Ford Cortina 1.6L's or am I getting old?

Loving the way the Germans have painted themselves into a corner with their models names. Shouldn't this be a C40 AMG, or would that look like it's not as good as the last one. hehe

Is your name based on the character from the series UFO? This is one of biggest shows in Japan and he is a hero in Japan,if so I commend you. Now addressing your comment. In Japan we have a saying, if fishes had testicles they would wear underwear! I hope this is understood? I will look out for your further posts because I am in love with the purple haired woman on this show and Staker is a hero!

That's a big change! Is it true that the old models have build quality issues hence squeak & rattle?

M177 in no-better-economy-than-M156-to-compensate-for-the-lack-of-character-and-crap-power-delivery shocker!

Hang on to your W204s, W212s and SLSs, lads - they'll be worth a bit before long...

Would be interesting to see a dyno graph for the new turbo vs the old NA to see how different the power delivery really is. I am not a massive fan of turbo's, but they do their job ok.

Agree with most that the interior looks like an afterthought.

My current 63 wagon was in for service last week & the dealer had an identical new model parked outside.

Both white, wagons, privacy, and 19 inch black AMG rims.

We literally 'lined them up side by side' and walked around them...

The new model is rounder and a bit more 'Euro car moulded' - it's probably better screwed together and clearly you can see the design team at AMG have toiled greatly... But... What happened next was interesting...

Two punters walked up and I overheard the one guy saying to the other;

'Oh look it's one of the latest AMG's', ooh aah etc...

Then the other guy said;

'Yes, and it's right next to a real (AMG) one - 6.3 ooh ahh etc... '

Which was interesting - 1st impression/discussion...

The sales guy 'accidentally' started the customers car - and I accidentally started mine at the same time...

For sure the current V8 sounds knarly, and for sure it'll be quicker on the road... AMG won't get their maths wrong on the numbers - for sure...

It sounded tuned in the same way as a Fiat twin cam versus a Morris product of the same era - I.e. business like...!

However - the M156 sounds like that history teacher you had at school that could project his voice across the entire building all at once - versus the highly trained and capable supply chain teacher that still wasn't all that convincing even if she used a microphone & PA on sports day...!

New model - am sure it's fab, let's see what happens to the residuals of M156's before we declare the old model has been surpassed as a thing to be desired...

:-))

Pity the sales guy didn't 'accidentally' take it round the by-pass to the petrol station and we could have 'accidentally' back-to-back' tried them out...

LoL - hope the customer enjoys there car as much I as I have enjoyed all 3 of my '63s...

I'm keeping an eye on M156-powered cars' values too. I doubt they'll fall much further than they have when the market realises how much greater than the new M177 cars they are...

For a bloke who owns neither the outgoing engine nor the incoming one and who seemingly has bugger all affinity to Merc models or AMG engines in general, you seem rather vehement against the new engine. The GT boys all seem rather keen to get their hands on it and I have to admit to being rather keen to see which variant of it they shoehorn into the "new" SLC next yr and whether to replace my 55 and the very last of the old school NA 5.5s with the new boy. I can get a real world 34mpg out of mine when it shuts down a bank on a dull M-way cruise and be north of the ton 3secs later if/when I mash the right foot. If the new engine can do that whilst adding a min of 50 or 90HP more, then I could be a very interested chap indeed. I have my doubts though.

I'm seriously considering buying an M156 E63 pretty soon... and yes, I hate turbocharged engines, I hate this downsizing BS, I hate the lie that it's improving efficiency - we're being sold a dud both in economy and character.

No you aren't. You just want to whinge about downsizing, blah, blah, blah. Spending north of £50k on something that is basically a practical motor with some fancy gubbins added you really don't give a fk about the configuration of the engine in said motor so long as it does the jobs primarily associated with said practical family motor and then added whizz bang to give middle aged dad his fun. Do you know what this is the case? because 95% of the customers are married and this motor will involve a large amount of wife/family time and caring passionately about the engine configuration comes a very long way second behind nailing all the wife/family bases first.

Now, I may be wrong, but Im willing to bet a Mars Bar or a pint that you won't have any variety of 63, be it a C or E, saloon or estate, brand new or 2nd hand any time soon.

There is a HUGE difference between the pre-facelift W204 and the facelift inside the cars. The pre-facelift had a really terrible interior (which I had in a C350) and the facelift's interior was greatly improved and I really liked it. But that was in part due to my C63's epic designo leather seats which were porcelain / black.

However the dash did suffer from a rattle and most owners had the same.

I won't be spending anything near £50k - but have you seen the used values of early M156s? I saw a high-miles W211 E63 go on eBay for about eight grand recently. There are lots and lots of them around the 15k mark. I'm married with two sons too, don't lecture me about the realities of family life - but I've always cared about what I drive having some character, and find driving dull cars increasingly depressing - which is why at the moment I've got a lovely zingy straight-six and a smallish but still fairly thunderous V8, both naturally-aspirated. Do I want to rant about how we're being sold a dud with all this downsizing turbo bks? You bet I bloody do! It's a massive fraud, nothing more, nothing less - all about CO2 and what completely unrealistic figures can be achieved on the bench by running the engine in such a way as to hardly wake up the turbos...

Oh and D. some ppl just plain deserve it. I'll take a Mars Bar off you also in 6 months when/if we revisit here and I'm prooved to be entirely correct by the gentlemans lack of said motor.

My wife is every bit as fond of thunderous, thirsty V8s as I am, and drives just as hard/fast as I do, if not more so.
