Best sounding car ever IMHO. Utterly magnificent.

Can't wait for FoS.

There are companies out there who make quad rotors to fit in RX8s and RX7s.
Over 10k / build but isn't the sound worth it? wink

Definitely. Ideal for track days too, providing there are no noise restrictions!

I'd love to do that so much and I don't mind losing money on a car... But then again, that is 10 grand!

A 20B swap is closer to £15-20k when all is said and done and a 26B swap would likely be over £30k. Everything on a 3 or 4 rotor motor is pretty much custom which is why it costs so much to do.

Think of it this way though. You can spend £7-10k on a RX-7 that is in good enough condition to be a nice starting point for a swap, and then another £15-20k for a 20B swap and all of the customisation that goes along with it. So, you are say £30k in the hole and you have a 500bhp car that weighs less than 1300kg and handles like a dream. Or you can buy a new Subaru STI or 4 cylinder Mustang GT for equivalent money and have less power, more weight, is not as pretty and damn sure won't sound as good. A 20B may struggle to do more than mid teens mpg though except on the highway where you might get 20, but if you are going down this route (i.e. making a monster track car) then why the hell would you care? This would be a 2nd or 3rd car choice after all and not a sensible consideration for a daily driver.

If you do a 26b conversion to an FD/RX8 for 10k, I'll take 5!
4 rotor eccentric shaft is around the 2k mark IIRC. Add in the cost of the plates, housings, custom machining, seals, etc, and you're probably getting close to that 10k already, if not more. Then there#'s the ancilliaries to think about - management, injectors, custom rails, mounting, prop, box, inlet (and if you want to make the variable length trumpets like the 787b 26b then it's going to be a mega project in it's own!).
30k plus easy.

Does the 787b make regular appearances at events like Goodwood FOS now or was it just a couple of events in the anniversary year? It's a car I'd dearly love to see/hear but I don't know what events it turns up at.

Edited because autocorrect is a pain in the bottom

Mazda are the main sponsor for the FOS this year, so expect 787B to make an appearance

There is a lad who has a 26B RX7 it sounds crazy! Apparently the rev limit is currently capped at 10k rpm until it's all bedded in.

As much as I adore V10 F1 cars this beast is even better. Simply awesome - exactly how all race cars should sound.

The noise gets me going almost as most as my new best friend Sophia did on Thursday evening!!!!!

The engine is called the R26B. Not the 'RB26B'.

Nerdy time... that is the 767b not the 787b.

Very easy mistake to make.

This car in fact:
