engines - crappiest of them all ?
Discussion
Just remembered I owned 2 cvh Fiesta's so that actually makes it 6 cars with that horrible engine! What the hell was wrong with me.
Was the 1.3 engine in the first Ford KA a cvh? If so I've now made it to 7 and that's pretty depressing. If it wasn't a cvh then it was a close relative and almost as bad, killed mine at about 60,000 miles when the tappets could no longer be adjusted. Sold it for a 1.0 Micra K11C (had to wiki the model number) and that engine was a total gem.

You'll be pleased to hear that it was not a CVH. But it was probably an Endura E if it was pre-2002. If post, it was a Duratec. I had no idea the CVH was so despised. There are so many to choose from.
I've no idea what engine it is/was but I was given a 2005 Volvo S40 1.6 petrol as a courtesy car for a weekend. I hated that car. The interior shades of grey plastic count stopped in the high teens and the engine was so bland it offended me. It rewarded nothing, to no-one, for any driving style at any time.
A miserable, miserable engine best forgotten.

Was not long after it was released so pre 2002, rattled with the best of them and just like the CVH I can identify them by ear from a distance. wormus said:

We had a Talbot Alpine.
Engine really rattled like a bag of spanners.
Not just our one, but they all did !

+1 I had one of these too before the Escort. My first car was a 1.3 Talbot Horizon with the same engine as the Alpine. Coarse, rattly and gutless.Engine really rattled like a bag of spanners.

It's because of these monstrous things that I now have a supercharged V8!

deffo the ford cvh - why buyers kept buying this horrible engine in their droves is beyond me.
My first car (well 2nd car really, but it's a long story), was a 1989 Escort 1.3L which I believe had one of these engines. Horrible awful horrific excuse for an engine. I really did think all engines were this crap and it almost put me off driving.Hard choice, here are three of my contenders:
TR7 - Went bang twice. Drove it about for a month with big end fail. Sounded like a diesel.
SD1 2600 seized at Dartford tunnel doing 5mph. Never had a problem with the 2300.
That crappy "O" series engine that was the flavour of Austin/Rover. I think ever one I had with this engine started pissing oil out.

The 1.3 was more likely an Endura or Valencia.I had a 1.3 1987 Escort and that wasn't a CVH.

Whatever it was, it was a horrible tappety thing.I had a 1.3 1987 Escort and that wasn't a CVH.
Awful car generally that though, couldn't have picked a worse car, it tried to kill me so many times. From the accelerator sticking on, to the brakes completely failing.
Eventually wrote off when an uninsured driver handbrake turned a Chevette into it, and then tried to blame me, before leaving false details and scarpering.
Can't say I was sad to see it go, even though I lost a packet on it.
Edit: Looks like it might have been the Valencia, did a quick google and that engine looks familiar, maybe I had a bad one, but it was a thoroughly awful noisy, generally crap thing.

T Twin, the ones in Harleys, never ridden one, I just have an aversion to Harleys and the engine enables people to ride them, only acceptable if you wear a back patch with "MC" on and its made of various bits of other bikes and you have no other transport.
