I am starting to think about my next company car.

Initially I thought about a GTD as a couple of guys at work have them and are very pleased with them, but looking into it a bit more I saw the GTE. Performance pretty much as per the GTD, but £60 a month company car tax compared to £200 for the GTD. The reviews say it's slightly less sporting to drive, but to be honest I could probably live with that. It seems like a no brainier, what am I missing?

Looks like a GT but it won't handle like one, far too heavy. Depends what you want. As a company car it seems like a no brainer.

Wouldn't the fact that the weight is low down offset the effect?

Perfect for those who do a lot of town driving, but want something practical yet reasonably sprightly for longer trips too?

Offset against what? Compared to what? Most cars are designed with the bulk of the mass low down.

Does the GTD really have that much performance? GTE is pretty quick for a 45 mpg car

They look similar, on paper at least.

The GTD struggles with low down acceleration, but once on the move it is really quite quick for something that can be very economical. I've had a number of GTIs and my current GTD feels as fast, if not faster in the mid range. It's also far from refined when you're really working the engine, but on a long run I've achieved a high of 70mpg.

Pretty much perfect as a company car if you have somewhere to charge it.

If you can get your employers to fit a charging point too (I think there are still some grants for it) then you could get an awful lot of your driving done on nothing but electricity, while still being able to do the long trips if needed.
