I reckon this will be gone by lunchtime. Hard to believe it's at shed budget actually, 4Star would knock that out for 5k. I'd be surprised if they're not already on the phone...
This looks a nice honest runaround but it's still just an old 406, with an uneconomical engine. I couldn't see anyone managing to get more than £1500 for it.
It was the 405 that was designed on the back of the 164, the 605 was developed from the 405. Back to the shed, lovely example of a good car, buy it and use it, it will never be worth more than what you have to spend on it to keep it running. It's a shame that our obsession with 'sports' oriented brands killed the likes of Rover, Lancia and Saab and changed the direction the French went with their barges.
I drive loads of various cars as part of my work and when jumping out of M Sport BMWs, S Line Audis, AMG Sport Mercedes etc into the equivalent SE/Elegance versions it's the latter that are way more suited to our roads and in many cases will cover the ground quicker, they also tend to have more comfortable seats. Funny how when I'm in Europe I hardly ever see the 'sports' versions and they have better roads to drive them on, we must be stupid.

Lovely cars. Ran a couple of diesels back in the day as company cars. So comfortable and relaxing to drive, and I'd imagine a lazy, smooth V6 would suit it down to the ground. Well built too. Even at 100k mine still felt tight, and the supple ride (one of the best of any car I've driven) means the interiors don't tend to get too rattly.
This is all the better for being a pre-facelift model too, as it doesn't have the troublesome multiplex wiring which was a classic example of a French manufacturer being an early adopter of technology, but not quite understanding or implementing it properly. My R-reg example ran to 100k with no major issues. My V reg facelift model was back in the dealership for electrical issues every few weeks. The horn going off at random, miles winding onto the odometer when completely stationary, and the windows winding themselves down in the rain were the best ones.
Still remember the 406 fondly though, and would happily drive one today.
