I reckon this will be gone by lunchtime. Hard to believe it's at shed budget actually, 4Star would knock that out for 5k. I'd be surprised if they're not already on the phone...

I had one of these - really good car, put over 60000 miles on it, only sold it because the ventilation failed. Comfy, good turn of speed - shame about the auto box, but lots of car for the money. Top shed.

This looks a nice honest runaround but it's still just an old 406, with an uneconomical engine.

I couldn't see anyone managing to get more than £1500 for it.

Great looking car, a time when Peugeot used Pininfarina to design their cars.
Designed in tandem with the Alfa 164 wink

What a cracking buy that is! I'd get it too if it was nearer Devon.

For that money and that condition, chuck it in a dry storage facility for 10 years come back to it and it'll be worth ten times what it is now and will be a 'classique' (see what I did there wink )

Failing that, buy it for just wafting about!

I'd tend to think, that the owner mistakenly left a "0" off the price.
Otherwise : "STEAL"

My old man had one of those in a pseudo sporty spec. Must be a really
good saloon with the (then) newly developed V6 and "clever" gearbox.

Surely that's a 10/10 shed? Wonderful cars these, not sporting in any way, but can be hustled when needed and utterly comfortable.

PH love old Pugs it seems.

I can't get excited about this at all..... and something about the advert write up is really getting on my tits too.

This is just dull.

No it wasn't, you're thinking of the 605

The 605 was the sister car to the Citroen XM and the 164 was part of the Fiat Croma, Alfa 164, Saab 9000 and Lancia Thema joint venture from the late eighties.

That's not a shed, it's bloody amazing. It deserves a proper caring home!

Hmm... For a comfy under the radar luxo barge not bad, but the slushbox is a big tick in the 'reasons not to buy' box.

It was the 405 that was designed on the back of the 164, the 605 was developed from the 405. Back to the shed, lovely example of a good car, buy it and use it, it will never be worth more than what you have to spend on it to keep it running. It's a shame that our obsession with 'sports' oriented brands killed the likes of Rover, Lancia and Saab and changed the direction the French went with their barges.

I drive loads of various cars as part of my work and when jumping out of M Sport BMWs, S Line Audis, AMG Sport Mercedes etc into the equivalent SE/Elegance versions it's the latter that are way more suited to our roads and in many cases will cover the ground quicker, they also tend to have more comfortable seats. Funny how when I'm in Europe I hardly ever see the 'sports' versions and they have better roads to drive them on, we must be stupid.

Lovely cars. Ran a couple of diesels back in the day as company cars. So comfortable and relaxing to drive, and I'd imagine a lazy, smooth V6 would suit it down to the ground. Well built too. Even at 100k mine still felt tight, and the supple ride (one of the best of any car I've driven) means the interiors don't tend to get too rattly.

This is all the better for being a pre-facelift model too, as it doesn't have the troublesome multiplex wiring which was a classic example of a French manufacturer being an early adopter of technology, but not quite understanding or implementing it properly. My R-reg example ran to 100k with no major issues. My V reg facelift model was back in the dealership for electrical issues every few weeks. The horn going off at random, miles winding onto the odometer when completely stationary, and the windows winding themselves down in the rain were the best ones.

Still remember the 406 fondly though, and would happily drive one today.

Sorry, my mistake. I thought from the photos I posted that the resemblance wasn't as close as I'd remembered, it all makes sense now rolleyes. If you compare the correct cars they're very close indeed.
