This is a MASSIVE long shot.

My Brother is on his way to Florence for a wedding and he's had a puncture in one of his run flats.

They are near Annecy and have been told that, due to the bank holiday, it could be Tues/Weds before they get him going again.

If I can find a tyre, is there any way of getting it to him by courier over the weekend or does anyone have contacts in that area to try and get him back on the road?

Tyre size is 275/35/19 run flat.

Any advice or ideas most welcome!

Cheers

Just drive on it. I drove from Stuttgart to home with zero pressure in my run flat on my MINI. Drove fine.

How is he going to get it fitted? Or are you going to try and get a wheel too?

Has he tried local tyre shops ? maybe one will understand english and can help him..

Maybe you can relay the numbers of these places? https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-ins...

I assume he has no breakdown cover ?

Fly home, arrive at house, act surprised and shocked that someone has stolen the car! Call police/insurance and let nature take it's course.

This might be slightly illegal but we won't tell anyone.

Thanks for the ideas. Particularly like the "reporting it stolen" one.

He has breakdown cover, its them that have told him Tues/Weds.

All the local tyre places are shut, although he has found a garage that will fit it for him if he finds a tyre.

All the ones on Ebay.fr are actually located in the UK!

I've had an email from someone on here who has helpfully pointed me in the direction of the ex pat forums and a local mobile tyre guy but no joy as yet.

Does it have to be run flat? I've got a used Bridgestone Potenza 275/35/19 you can have, (only has 2mm of tread though).

Apparently it does have to be run flat for the bead to sit on the rim?? I'm no expert.

Thanks for your very kind offer though.

No, you will be fine with a standard tyre on a runflat rim.

What's a runflat rim and how does it differ from a normal rim?

This one is 50 mins away by road, but not a run flat..

You never know this might work..

The tyre doesn't have to be a runflat - a standard tyre will be fine as the wheel rim is no different. I've had a few hundred standard tyres fitted to supposed 'runflat' rims over the years.

If it's a 275/35/19 runflat then the car is a BMW 5 Series? If I'm correct then as it's an uncommon size perhaps look for a smaller wheel with tyre on French eBay?

I remember that on the E60 the standard 16" ones would only fit up to 525i/d models due to brake clearance, so worth checking fitment on www.realoem.com if you find a smaller rim.

It's very possible however that the tyre wasn't punctured at all and that the rim is actually cracked on the inside edge (one of the reasons my customers more often go for non-runflat tyres - the softer sidewalls don't transmit shocks from potholes etc. through into the rim).

The 19" wheels are particularly bad for cracking so this may well be the problem - a new tyre will still leak in this case so your brother will be getting pretty familiar with his compressor.

Sadly he'd have to take it to the tyre fitter to check for cracks as the car comes with no jack / wheel brace.

Finally, if the wheel itself is OK then the front tyre size might be easier to find. If you use http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calcu... you can check if the width is OK for the rim.

I'd happily go over tomorrow (everyone loves a road trip right?) with a wheel and tyre but I'm not sure the breakdown co will pay the invoice! :-)
