Looking for some advice

Currently have a st tdci mondeo for the family car - it's been great but us getting old and starting to cause problems, plus the ride and low profile tyres really don't suit where we live

So I've found 2 cars I like, both similar age / 2011, condition and price

I've driven both and like both but can't decide

The mondeo is a 2.2 titinium x - but not a sport. It has the same 200bhp engine and spec but smaller wheels and no body kit

The Mazda is a 2.2 business so has 163 bhp plus full leather and sat nav - although I'm not too concerned about those features

Any have experience of either car ? Any major known issues?

Leaky injectors on the 2.2 - although I've only ever worked on older models with this engine

The 200bhp Mondeo uses the 2.0 engine from the Focus ST not the 2.2 Mazda lump I'd take the Mondeo IMO it's the better car plus it seems the higher profile tyres will be better for where you live.

I've got a 2.2d 185bhp 6 (same basic engine as the one you're looking at).

I've had it for 2.5yrs and taken it from 43k to 107k in that time. Averaged 44.8 Mpg.

It's been a great car and I'd have another. Two things to watch out for... the wheels seem to be made of cheese (not from a damage perspective but they just seem to be porous) and the 75k service is expensive (about £750 from memory)

I have the 2.2 Tit X Sport, I've only had it since January but I'm really pleased with it. I think you are better off without the bigger wheels, the 19s and lower profile tyres badly affect the handling unless the road is very smooth, I keep an eye on eBay for 18s with decent tyres to swap them over, I find it so annoying.

I've had no problems with mine, but the automatic windscreen wipers are rubbish!

Now I'll probably get scorned for this, but I've only the previous gen of Mondeo and Mazda 6.

The mondeo was very bland and every other month something else seemed to begin to give up the goose. The Mazda 6 never had a single thing wrong with it in the 7 years I had it and even the leather interior held up far better than the Mondeo.

I may just have had a gooseberry mondeo though.

How are you finding the running costs and fuel etc? Are the xenons standard or an added option?

Sorry, didn't realise you had asked the question.

I get about 38 mpg, I do mainly A road running, with the occasional long motorway run. I do have a heavy right foot though!

Apart from fuel there has been no other costs, first service is 20k (I think, seems high) which I haven't reached yet. It will need new front tyres, but I am hoping to find some 18's with decent tyres to replace them before that happens.

The xenons were standard I believe. Also has cornering lights, which are useful when pulling onto the drive in the dark, but don't notice during normal driving.

Just replaced my 365k mile Mazda 3 with a new 6 sport. Facelifted compared to what your looking at but I was loaned one like that for a couple of days. Really like it. I've never found Fords offerings very comfortable TBH although what some find comfortable others do not.

The only negative I recall reading about was the Nav system in the earlier model was a bit slow, small and generally disliked in road tests - probably why they've changed it.
