Drove past an S2000 today by the side of the road with a "for sale £4250" car on the front windscreen. A quick glance of autotrader indicates this is the cheapest 02 Reg S2000 buy at least a grand...too good to be true? Must admit if I was buying a cheapish weekend sports car the S2000 would be near the top of the list for me. None of the worry associated with cheap Boxsters and their intermediate shaft bearing problems and they don't seem to be getting any cheaper, but 4 and a bit grand seems a bit cheap to me!

Without knowing the details it may be, ex-write off? Moon mileage? Mechanically fked? Shagged interior? Cloned car? Etc.

Price seems about right unless S2000 values rocketed in the past month since I last looked at them. A bit overpriced already IMO.

Thanks for the unnecessarily aggressive (and highly original response to my username) post, rallycross. Makes pistonheads such a wonderful forum experience.

Care to back up your statement with evidence? There's several S2ks of 2002 vintage across various sites in the 4-5k ballpark. Without knowing anymore details about that car, it's difficult to establish a precise idea of whether the price is "too good to be true". I maintain that the price doesn't seem unreasonable given the limited information.

You can pickup S2000s for under 5k.

I was looking at S2000's when I got the RX, saw quite a few around the £4-5k mark, however this was before the summer last year.

Yup. I looked at one recently £4.5k. Wasn't mint, not a wreck either. Obviously if you're really interested you'll be taking a closer look, which will confirm if it's got issues or not.

..Interesting replies and a bit of disagreement in the ranks it seems!

When I went back on autotrader this morning, in the entire country, there was a suspiciously cheap 06 model on there for £4.2K, a 2000 model for £4.5K and a clutch of Cat Ds for just under £5K, so this one I saw IS cheap and near the bottom end of the market...also bearing in mind I live near Bournemouth where used cars usually change hands for more money than further up the country. If you don't believe me, put in a BH22 post code and look at the prices of BMWs etc within a 10 mile radius. They are steep!

I may go and have a look at this car, although alarm bells are ringing a bit as it isn't advertised on Auto trader or Gumtree and most "tips for buying used cars" articles say "Be careful of cars advertised by the side of the road"......!!
