I picked up a focus ST 3 estate last week and so far it's ticking all the boxes for me.
Cool. Unfortunately, Subaru has abandoned the fast estate market, which is why I keep coming back to the GTI. (Not wanting to sound like my dad) but what's your ST like on fuel? Fuel consumption was a notable weakness of my Subaru and my mate's mk2 ST.

1st tank 30mpg, bit of town and a run to the lakes. I have been driving it hard on and off as I have only had it a few days

There's even an M235i on 64 plate fully loaded with 2,500 miles for the price of that second one!

Nope.
As much as that kid is a dick there's about 25 or so M135i's on 14 or 64 plate with less than 10,000 miles and quite a lot of options, some of them fully loaded.

I think it's just the cylinder layout he means (I6 in lieu of V6) smile

Golf is the right answer, but wrong engine. Get the GTD, revs hard, sounds good, handles like a GTI, returns 45+ mpg average.

Haha my bad forgot to put straight six, am quite tired!

I'd much prefer an A45 AMG over the M135 in any case, despite having only 4 cylinders it's a bit of a beast, bit more pricey, nothing nearly new under 30k.

May be a pound or two over budget, but it fulfils the brief:

Agree, the only correct colour for a rangey is British racing green!
