Currently looking for a new car to replace my daughter's old banger, and she has asked for my help. I've looked around at brokers, found one that gave a good price but then I found had very bad customer feedback on the internet, and then came across this company that seems to have pretty good feedback, perhaps too good to be true - or am I just too suspicious?

Anyway, if any of you have had dealing a little reassurance would be helpful before we pull the trigger.

There are many brokers on the internet that offer a discount of approx £3000 or 20% off a new mid range Ford Fiesta for example. The prices shown on their websites are prices that have been achieved in the last few weeks from dealers. Some good brokers are Broadspeed,Autoebid,Drive the Deal etc and the way they work is that they will put you in contact with a main dealer who will ring you and discuss the car you want, delivery times,if you need finance and deposit they require that is usually about 5%.You normally have to pay the balance when you pick up the car or a day or so before.

This is a safe option as you are dealing with a main dealer for all payments. The brokers work on commission that is about £200,sometimes that is paid to them by the dealers when the sale is finalised and sometimes you have to pay the brokers by credit card for your protection but if the deal does not happen they they will refund the money.

These dealers may be far from your home so everything can be sorted out on the phone/E-mail and delivery is usually free of charge.

You could also print off the prices brokers quote for a particular car you like on their website and take it to your local dealers to see if they will come close, match it or even beat the price.

So its zero risk as you are dealing with main dealers and save a lot of money.

Suzuki swift at 0% deposit and 0% apr is a good shout.

You can also pay a deposit to bring the monthlies down a bit.

Why not speak to a broker, get £1500 off the list price and 0% deposit and 0% apr from the dealer.

I have spoken to dealers, I know what car we want and the exact specifications, I don't need finance, I have had a quote from the above broker, but I wanted to know if anyone had already dealt with them. That's all. I looked at one broker and found that they were a finance house and that people were receiving cars already registered to another name before owning them second hand. It's a hard world out there, which is why I asked if anyone had any knowledge.

Most brokers are middle men between the customer and main dealer and earn a commission if the customer buys a car fron the dealer. These can be different types of business from someone working from their house to a large financial company.

The vast majority of brokers only deal in brand new cars that have to be factory ordered but the dealer may have some cars in stock not registered and for sale. Some brokers will have pre registered cars that the dealers have registered before the end of the quarter to achieve a dealer bonus.

If you look at the Drive the Deal website it has a section on pre registered cars and tells you when this can be a good idea and also a bad idea. Its an interesting read.

What broker are you talking about on your thread.

If you tell the broker you want a new car that you will be the first registered owner that is what you will get.

I swear people just reply without reading the topic, all the OP wants to know is, have any of you bought/dealt with this company www.new-car-discount.com and if so, was it a good experience, yes or no, simple.

I can recommend drive the deal for service/knowledge etc. Do a quote on their site as I've never known another broker to undercut them on the common Marquez.

At least Harlowrog seems to understand my OP. I have had quotes from Orangewheels, Drivethedeal and several others but this particular company came out several hundred pounds cheaper. I tried ringing several dealers direct but got short shrift. I was polite, told them succinctly that I wasn't wanting to waste their time, that I had a debit card in my hand and was prepared to order right there and then, and quoted the exact model, specification and the price I had been quoted. Yet these brokers exist and place orders with dealers, so some dealership is prepared to be commercial. This car isn't for me, but my daughter; it isn't a luxury car but a family workhorse, a Skoda Fabia estate which comes highly recommended. Unlike me, she wouldn't know whether to put oil in the washer bottle or the engine, and we just want a solid little car for her and the two children. I have now researched the broker, they are seemingly well reputed, they bank with the Coop in the North West, are seemingly well founded financially, so I have paid the deposit with my credit card. That way, if things go wrong, the bank pays.

Aren't they owned by a finance company? You mentioned another owned by a finance house earlier in the thread as if that was a bad thing.

Yes, owned by a finance company but trading separately and nothing but good reviews on trustpilot. So in the end a decision had to be made and that's it.

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.new-car-disco...

On the other hand, if you look here:-

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.gbcardeals.co...

you'll find quite a different story. Of course, who knows whether any of it is true? My daughter will keep the car for about 10 years (we don't change often as a family - I've had three cars in 23 years!) so if in the end it is pre-registered, which they assure me it will not be, it isn't that big a deal. But the price of the car, ordered to my specification, was extremely attractive. Anyway, paying by credit card protects the deal.
