I'm hoping to do some touring from LA to San Fran in October for my birthday and thought I'd quite like to hire a cabriolet (probably do the pacific highway drive)

One thing I just realised is that I will also be lugging two suitcases along (decent size since going for 2 weeks). Are there any cabriolets that could be advised which would accommodate two cases whilst the roof is down?

I originally wanted to get a classic mustang, but now am not too sure everything would fit!

You could buy a pair of cabriolet suitcases. Most brands have matching luggage.

I'm taking a woman along, there is no way she'd fit the kitchen sink into a cabriolet suitcase smile

Roadsterbag make fitted luggage for the majority of cabs. As a price reference it's about £150 for a plain black no frills set for the SLK, and another company make a tailored set in various colours, stitching and removable pockets etc for about £700 if you're more inclined to that price range.

Can't remember the name of the premium brand though; something like over the hills maybe?
