Its another 'What Car' thread. Sorry!

I've recently sold one of the Ferraris to make way for something a bit more family orientated. I have a budget of £20k (which can maybe stretch a little).

I'm after a 4 seater car that's fun to drive and a bit special. My original plan was to buy an early Aston Martin DB7 with the straight six engine, which I could potentially use on a daily basis, but having looked at a few in the past month it would appear that most have now been abused and unloved when they became an affordable Aston!

My other option is a TVR Cerbera, but I've read a few forum threads and reviews saying that the running costs of these cars could be rather ridiculous (engine rebuilds etc). Also that they're not really very useable if I were to have it as a daily - engines needing warming through for a good few minutes before going anywhere.

I know there is the Porsche 911.... but tbh, I'm just not a Porsche fan.

What else is there? Main criteria is:

Not too ridiculous to run
relatively practical and useable
good/interesting looking sportscar
Space for 2 adults and a 2 year old
£20k Budget.

ETA - Doesn't have to be £20k, the less expensive the better. If there's something fun for £5k then great!

If a DB7 has big enough rear seats what about a Jag XKR? A 20K Jag will be a lot fresher than an Aston.

Not a supercar but what about an E90 M3 or E60 M5. They will be just as fast as anything from Aston/Jag/ferrari around that price range?

Or possible the alternative from Mercedes, C63 AMG?

Can Nissan GTR's be had for £20k yet?

Around £20k should get you a Maserati Gransport.

It shares a lot of parts with the Ferrari F355 - and believe me I know how much they are!!! Not sure if they're another moneypit?

Seems like there's a lot of them about. Plus I'm not sure I could cope with it being an automatic.

As much as I love them and want one, I just couldn't bring myself to pay £20k on an old Escort!

BMW E90 M3 is a good shout. Didn't know they were in my price range.

Mercs never seem to age well. When new they look great, but after about 5 years they just look old and bland for some reason.

Do you mean the new GTR's? Thought they were at least £30k - unless a Cat C or D and potentially had the sh*t ragged out of them?

Out of all the slylines, that is probably my favourite one, but they just don't feel very special inside. The interiors just feel so cheap which is a big shame.

BMW M6. Coupe or Convertible, it doesn't really matter.

Ok...

I was trying to avoid the usual as I suspect you know all too well what they are but I will anyway...The RS4 Avant.

Or if you don't mind sticking out..

If you are considering E90 M3's you should also consider a Lexus ISF, unless auto is show stopper.
Will cost buttons to run compared to everything listed so far as nothing ever goes wrong with them, yet has a great 5 litre V8. Very much a dual personality car.

RS4 - definitely not! Too big and too 4wd.

Focus RS is nice, just see too many of them about though.
