Yeah, I know the perfect car for my criteria is the 911 - but I just don't really want one for some reason.

They are starting to appreciate are super rare & properly fast, with a Full System Map & a pair of filters mines pushing out 542.6bhp 497.3lb/ft at the crank. No trick suspension to go wrong just simple shocks & springs.
Plus it seems the above seller needs to get rid so make him an offer.

A Cerbera. If you ran a Ferrari you can run a Cerbera. You will easily fit a 2 year old in with your wife and all clobber in the ridiculously large boot.
They're not hard to drive gently and are perfectly commutable if that's what you want.
They're also appreciating quite appreciably so this will offset maintenance costs somewhat compared to other more vanilla choices which are still shedding money.
It will definately excite and it always feels special.

Thats the problem, the expensive to run Ferrari is the one I kept! I sold the cheap to run one... it wasn't fast enough.They're not hard to drive gently and are perfectly commutable if that's what you want.

I'd consider a 2005 on facelift Maserati 4200, £15k to £20k will get you into a same level car as a £25k to £30k Gran Sport and there isn't that much difference between them. For a lot less outlay how about a Brera 3.2 S Prodrive, not much room in the back but ticks the other boxes and the depreciation will be slow as they are getting sought after, finding a full Prodrive version will be the hardest thing. Jag XKR 4.2s are great value and if you'd consider a saloon the XFR 5.0 is a lot of car for the money.
I just get the impression a Masser will cause a lot of headaches. Brera is a beautiful car but got the impression they can be a bit of a big front wheel drive barge to drive?
Jag XK is nice, especially the later shape. Main problem with it is that on my way into work this morning at 5:30am, I dont see many cars on the road, yet I saw 2 XK's. Ticks all the other boxes though so I may have to go have a look at some. Can you get them with a manual or are the flappy paddle gearboxes ok in them?

That's why I specifically quoted the Prodrive version, yes it's FWD compared to the standard cars 4WD yet the transformation is huge, they don't feel front heavy at all. XKs are all Autos yet the paddles work OK, for around £20k you can either go XKR 4.2 or get into a facelift XK 5.0 - pluses and minuses with each but the 5.0 is marginally cheaper to run and nicer inside, for a lot less money you could just go with an XK 4.2. I wouldn't dismiss one without having a drive, would make a good daily and reasonably practical too.Jag XK is nice, especially the later shape. £2000/year will comfortably run a Cerbera. Engine rebuilds are pretty rare and to be honest usually justified by man maths by owners who want their AJP8 rebuilt to 4.7 litres or with Red Rose compression ration and valve seats. It's true the inlet valve clearances close up, but that's a top end rebuild every 80k or thereabouts. There are plenty which have passed that.
Remember you can sell out and get more back than you paid for the car which is not true for most of the alternatives which will cost you less in maintenance but are still depreciating quite enthusiastically.
I am a massive Jaguar fan though and have the 5.0 supercharged V8 in my fleet. It is a peach but it's not an exciting engine to drive. It's very effective at all RPMs but that almost makes it pointless to rev it. Still an XKR is a lovely car.
How about a Renault Alpine GTA turbo or an A610
Unusual and a bot marmite, reasonably quick, great to drive especially in the dry, 4 seats plus some luggage space.
There are some decent ones about for between £5k and £8k

The turbo version is quickish (was very quick in its day) and a few smallish changed can make it extremely quick there are cars with 300bhp which considering they weigh about 1200kg isn't bad...
The A610 is more modern and has boring things like power steering, it also costs more

I disagree with a lot of your reasons for discounting a Cerbera. Disregarding the SP6, it's perfectly capable of doing 100k Miles without an engine rebuild and if it is a big concern, buy one with a rebuilt engine by a reputable TVR specialist. I don't know where you heard you need to warm the engine before being able to drive it, it simply isn't the case. What I would say is be very careful of chassis rust, with few exceptions, if you aren't looking at a car which has had a body off chassis rebuild, it's probably going to need one soon, it's a fibreglass car built by a small company in Blackpool, it doesn't feel like a Jag or a Ferrari, bits are held in place by Sikaflex and velcro. Parts are from Ford, Rover, Citroen, Vauxhall etc, but none of that detracts from the experience of driving one, or even how special they feel to sit in, it really is a well designed and incredible looking car. I'm not sure how much of a usable 4 seater you'll find it though, there isn't a whole lot of space.
