Hi Guys,

My MOT is due for renewal on around the 6/7th of June. However I don't no plan on renewing it as I am planning on moving back to Ireland and taking the car with me and will have to get the Irish NCT before I can import it an have it Irish registered. I'm due to leave on the 3am ferry on the 9th of June. I am aware of the possibility of a fine for a car not having a valid MOT.
Just wondering if you think I may be shown leniency if I explain the situation and produce a copy of my ferry booking or would It no be worth the risk?

Personally, I'd risk it - I drove around for a week after my MOT was due last year (completely forgot about it) and never had an issue.

Done the same with no tax and never had any problems.

Whilst it is technically illegal to drive a car with no MOT on the road (unless to a pre-booked appointment at an MOT station for thee pedants among you) I'd be tempted to risk it for the sake of a few days.

Do ferry terminals not have ANPR cameras like airport car parks? For the sake of £30 to a friendly garage, why risk it?

With my first car I'd moved house and forgot to notify DVLA so missed the tax reminder and didn't realise until I went to tax it that I'd been driving for a month with no MOT!

Take it in early for an MoT that way you'll know if it needs anything doing for the Irish test.
