Drive in the same way with a Range Rover and it brings out the full repertoire of the debt monkey. Lethal undertakes, rabid flashing of lights or cramming right up behind you.
I think people instinctively know that if there's a crash, it's always the SUV driver's fault.
Only if there isn't a non road tax paying cyclist within line of sight. Or a black person.

I'm pretty sure the 'ist people' have a pecking order and I can't belive SUVs are at the top.

Yup. Round the M25 and nearby M roads you'll always get the same type of punter undertaking or flashing. There isn't much you can do about thick or angry people. Funnily enough these are the exact same people who run inner 'importance' scales on fellow road users so you find they react differently depending on what car you are in.

For example in my TVR they never act like that and very often cars infront pull in. Driving on motorways is about as easy as it gets in that car. It seems to be a car which generates no animosity or anger from other road users.

This enormous difference in behaviour does kind of tell you that it's not you but them. They are just those loser punters in life who think their failures are the fault of anyone but themselves.
This happens every now and again when I'm at the same speed as traffic, but I refuse to speed up because I'll catch it at the next light/roundabout/junction. People seem to not realise that sometimes there's more traffic than just you?! I don't notice a pattern of my cars or theirs, it's random.

I leave a 2 second gap everywhere, but when on the motorway, I generally vary my gap between 1 second and 3 seconds depending on what's happening around me.

I also like to increase the gap ahead of me in slow-ish traffic (~50 mph in those managed motorway bits on the M25 for instance), as it allows me to keep moving when the car in front flashes the brake lights, then accelerates, then brakes sharply etc etc.

And there's me chugging along at a comfortable pace, rarely needing to brake (engine braking is usually sufficient for speed changes required). Sure, you do get the occasional Mr or Ms Angry getting all worked up behind you and jumping into the gap ahead to "make progress".

Funnily enough, that isn't an issue when you drive along behind a lorry in L1. And in the slower moving spots, L1 is usually the most consistent in terms of speed, so more relaxing and easier to drive along.
