What is out there that is inexpensive, but feels special when you drive it/sit in it/look at it / listen to it.

Not a what car thread... just have some time to kill!

Lets define cheap at sub £10k.

Include a pic if possible, or a link to an ad.

Afla GTV V6 would get my vote.

hehe

In the PH world maybe but its too high a number to be interesting as you can get a huge variety of cars matching your criteria.

It's alright I'm not the 'idiot' swearing at strangers on a car forum hehe

10k isn't cheap for me either, but when what you can spend on a car ranges from £25 to £25,000,000 and a lot of the 'interesting' cars may be at the higher end of that spectrum, setting an arbitrary 10k limit doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

I'd have to agree on any old Jaguar XJ in decent condition. Even a £500 snotter makes you feel great driving it, and the non motoring populace seem to have no idea that once they are 10 years old they are a £3k car. An old XK would probably have a similar effect for £5k.

Its a good shout, as is the 10k Rolls!

Porsche 944 certainly ticks lots of boxes.

Personally not sure about the fiat barchetta(sp) its been yonks since i have seen one in the metal, maybe that adds to their specialness though!

Exactly my thoughts. A Mk1 or Mk2 frankly - T-Bar out, sun shines, happy days.

There's a myriad of 'special' feeling cars that can be had for £10k and I would agree that is a ridiculous value to term cheap (it's the most I would ever consider spending on anything ever). Make it <£5k or better still <£2.5k then it would be more interesting.

Some suggestions from me:
  • Mercedes W126 - can be had from shed money and make you feel like royalty
  • Old Jaguars - XJS, XJR etc
  • Old Landcruisers - they may not be fast, refined or beautiful but for me they have that certain something
  • Range Rover Classic - Yes they rust, break constantly and use a shocking amount of fuel but there's no denying they have that feeling
Bentleys and Rollers can certainly be bought cheap but they would cost a hideous amount to keep going so I'm not sure they count.

Yep. Any MR2 (less so roadster IMO) but they look and feel special to get in every time.

+2 biggrin
My MR2 gets ridiculous attention, much more so than my M cars or 911. And it's always positive attention.

Great fun to drive too and you can hear the engine and turbo noises behind your head.
