VAT £1,447
Fitting £2,500?
Total £36,177
for 280hp@1,240kg. Is there any competition?
Ok its not exactly here yet. But a 415PS Mustang V8 is £33k (before Ford discounts/offers (if there is any) and its 1620kgs. Albeit not boosted. But even a Mustang Ecoboost is £29k basic and its 315PS and, they both in stock form are offering better power to weight than the stock GT86, although at a cost (then again for badge snobbery sake - Mustang>GT86)Kit £7,235
VAT £1,447
Fitting £2,500?

But then add a few choice fancies from Fords Performance mates- in which Mountune are currently are messing around with a demo Mustang Ecoboost. So expect MR400 Mustang Ecoboosts for sub Mustang GT/£33k prices. And it makes the a Cossie GT86 look overpriced

Entry GT86 is now £22,195 and it says the kit includes VAT and fitting...so would be well under 30k for 280bhp and a bit over 26k for 260bhp...bargain.Kit £7,235

Prices are exclusive of both VAT and fitting,
Hmmm... if I was spending 20 grand I think I'd prefer something like this:
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Much as I enjoyed my own GT86 (I had the Scion FR-S version), I think a good clean (used) Cayman S would offer similar thrills and be rather easier to live with on a day to day basis. Probably easier and cheaper to maintain too!
One problem with the article is that there aren't any stats for improved torque numbers. At least I can't see any. The problem with the GT86/BRZ/FR-S is the anaemic torque (especially lower down the rev range). I'm sure these mods result in huge improvements in that area, and it would be really nice if we could see some numbers.

It's a fair point - we'll see if we can get more from them on this but they were only talking horsepower. The Cosworth pages linked from the story (see the breakdown for the kits) has power/torque curves so hopefully you can get something from that but we'll look into this for you and update accordingly.

Just sold my Sprintex supercharged GT86. Great fun, great handling but no matter how much money you throw at a GT86 it`s still just a Toyota with a crap interior. The interior quality is appalling and cheap. A well sorted MX5 is better (been there done that). My wifes Tiguan cost the same as the GT86 and is far superior build quality. Different car admittedly but more expensive to build (4 wheel drive etc). Now in a 981 Boxster. Not as quick in a straight line as my GT86 but oh so much more fun and nice to be in !

I have one, but not the full Monty, I figured £3,000 for the full exhaust was a bit much.
It's a very impressive car, I had a Cayman S before this, so I do have a good yardstick.
As a trackday and Sprint event car it's very good and way cheaper to run than the Cayman S, but not much slower and better around the twisty bits.

BBR'S MX-5 stage 2 turbo gets you more power, in a car that weighs less and costs less. Kit £7,235
VAT £1,447

Name another rwd car in the same ilk, from the recent(ish) past or present.
Edit: as mentioned above, rx-8 has to be the closest.

Those who harp on about GT86/BRZ's lack of power, maybe best to hold off until it's big brother comes to town?

Sorry but as somebody who loves GT86's and the idea of a boosted model, that 'promo' video was absolute ste. Just crap.
Good article though.
^This.Good article though.
I watched hoping to hear what the modified version of the car might sound like, but was instead treated to the director's awful choice in music. Why?!
