Fair point re standard vs modified (though modified by a well respected company is a tad different), I would still be very surprised if running costs, consumables, parts etc were anywhere near Porsche territory.

Wow - they've made it look even more dated. Cosworth are stuck in the 80s styling wise.

Rather leave it standard tbh. Not arsed if someone 'wafts' past in a M135i on the straights.

More power means tinkering with tyres/suspension/brakes and beofre you know it you've ruined a perfectly good car..

I like that Cosworth have gone mild rather than wild; a properly engineered, low boost, intercooled supercharger to give it a more modern car 'big engine' feel with usable and linear power.

For road use I don't think you'd need to change a vast amount to keep that in check. I think I'd just go quality rubber, brake fluid and slightly hotter pads.

I like the idea of this, but how reliable are these superchargers? I know there are a few others out there, any reports of problems?

I can't warm to the look of the GT86, it reminds me of a sausage dog, short legs etc.
I can't see them as a good residual for long term ownership either, much the same way as the MR2. Far better to 'Honda up' an Elise or Exige for similar power, whilst retaining far more in residual value.

Boxster s
Cayman s

Elise

The list is endless and a Toyota with 260bhp would be down the list
In what way are the M5 and M6 suitable alternatives?
They're not, but you already knew that wink

I'd love one of these. Not sure if i'd go with the Cosworth package over Fensport who do the turbo kit. Someone on Youtube has one and it sounds amazing! I must say i'm sure this Cosworth upgrade is cheaper even with all the additional extra bits you can add on. Maybe not a whole lot but i'm sure after fitting including VAT it ends up at around the 5k mark.

I think these aftermarket FI kits are so much more potent than manufacturers standard systems (obviously) and offer so much more. The only thing that worries me in comparison is declaring all the modifications to insurance. It's quite extensive and surely going to cost a whole more than a car with a turbo/supercharger from factory.

No no, thats the turbo conversion you're talking about not the supercharger.

Nice, but what impact on the cost of insurance?
Insurance is insurance? Over 25 its neither here nor there, you can go through specialist brokers pretty easily.

86 is more fun than Boxster/Cayman imho and more useable than an Elise. Plus a 5 year warranty is rather nice.

I'm not looking at new, 10-15k is where I am, so E46 M3, E39 M5, S2 Elise, RX7... ALOT of choice over a BRZ/86

I'd be interested to know what a 25 year old would pay to insure it; anyone older people would just wonder why he didn't buy a BMW/Porsche.
I'm 26 with 5 years NCB and coughing up £430 for a modified Fabia VRS, DOC fully comp, and like-for-like cover on modifications, so i'd expect to find cover sub 1k, and ideally sub £750, modified, agreed value and fully comp DOC.

ETA - My E36 318 with a 325 swap and modifications is £680, and thats 200/ish bhp rwd...
