I would love this, bound to be an absolute blast. Perfectly balanced layout and chassis. Plenty of power and not too much weight. Great driving position. Semi-practical. I can't see much to not like. Shame the engine doesn't appear to be as nice as a VTEC or even a 2ZZ, but this looks great otherwise.

A Crossfire wouldn't see which way a GT86 went across the Brecon Beacons, and quoting the price of a very old car isn't helpful. I could buy may cars that are quicker for less than £6000 but none of them are a new car.
If you want a nearly new sportscar for £15-20k, a GT86 is a very strong contender. MX-5's will be lovely but not everyone likes a soft top and GT86's are fractionally more practical if you need that. SLK's and Z4's are a bit "boulevard", 370Z's are thirsty and a bit brutish and Caymans will cost a lot to run. Caterhams and Elises require significant compromises. Really, there aren't a lot of better options and if I were looking for a car without rear doors it'd be top of my list.
Would I modify one like this? Probably not because the power of the standard car would be sufficient for me to enjoy the driving I do. But then it depends what rings your bell. If all someone cares about are 0-60 times and bragging rights there are plenty of £5k Imprezas for sale.

But if you do that you have to live with something that was (a) based on the previous generation SLK (so old before it even came out) and (b) looks like a shamed Labrador wiping its backside across the floor...vsonix said:
Heimholz resonator is a baffle that smooths out air. With the m52 (bmw) engine there was one in the airbox, the main point of it seemed to be to reduce induction growl. Taking it away actually improved the car's feel.
They're chambers of a specific volume designed to cancel out sound at certain frequencies. Their use in intake systems a lot of the time is to get past noise regulations which are performed at certain engine revs. Sometimes you'll have them to mitigate resonance which can hamper intake airflow so removing them downstream of the maf sensor or throttle body is ill advised.It may sound a fancy thing to have in an exhaust but the reality is it's probably there to reduce engine drone at cruising revs. A useful but fairly dull feature.
