Err, PH, the T5 box will NOT take whatever's thrown at it. About 300bhp/300ftlb is the limit, and you'll want to be well below that in the interests of longevity. The later 6-speed T-56 is rather tougher, and the TR-6060 better still.

The BorgWarner T5 in my old Cosworth was happy running over 300bhp and over 300 lbft. My brothers standard T5 putting over 350bhp and similar torque was also happy in his Cosworth.

It may be an agricultural box but it's not 'that' weak.

The differential is the real weak point at just 7.5"

Well, in view of the outward restraint shown in the car's design 'brief' allied to the stock Cosworth parts used and the whole sensible Q-Car approach, I'm guessing this would be (if turnkey reliable) a great fun car to own and drive and with which to surprise the hell out of a LOT of established performance cars!

I actually don't think £8K is too much to pay for this kind of performance but only if it all feels 'of a piece' (ie, the car all hangs together properly in terms of performance, handling, brakes etc) when you drive it. A test drive would certainly be the proof (or not) of that but the detail seems to suggest the owner's made a proper package out of the sum of its parts.

How long though before you felt compelled to stick a brace of Cibies on the front?!

I understand rwd Cossies have naff-all traction, wouldn't expect this to be much different?

Doing burnouts everywhere is fun for about a week, but after a while you'd quite like the option of some actual acceleration.

Only if the bushes and mounts are knackered.
They had skinnier tyres than a GT86 as standard (205s) but still managed high 5s/low 6s to 60 with 200bhp ....so they couldn't have been too bad

Depends on the drivers ability though..... no traction control other than a LSD...... M135i power would get one sub 5seconds......still on 205s and no traction control

That is pretty cool. If it works well. And hasnt suffered from the tin worm. Price is always subjective. I expect it cost a lot more than £8k to make. If I had space in my garage for another car I might be tempted.

I love this. But I'd want to build it myself.

I know Ford prices have got silly but surely there's no way that's worth 8 grand.

Wonder if the car itself was the cause of the 3k hike

That's one option. I'd prefer to stick a National Trust sticker in the window and a box of tissues on the parcel shelf to give it the Sunday-driven pensioner-spec look. Don a tweed hat while you're behind the wheel for the full effect.

Yep 1.6 badge on rear...
Base model 3-door Sierras came with a 1.3 too, so that would be even better.

Why??? so you can barry it away from every set of lights, leaving a rather confused 'opponent' behind who wasn't aware that he was actually in a race...

When was the last time that you actually had a consentual, full revs race away from the lights with a stranger, i literally can't remember, it's been that long.

Yeah, it doesn't really happen like that does it and I should imagine any enthusiasts would see a Sierra and wonder why its still ont he road and why its making very un Sierra like noises, normal punters wouldnt even register it, the sleeper bit may work when you have a thrusty German diesel thing stuck to your bumper, move over a lane and hoof it leaving confused derv driver, that said, how fast would it actually be against say a 330/335d, stuff like that is bloody fast these days, ok this may be lighter but is it more powerful ? would the rear tyres give up at 50 when you put your foot down ?

Just found this old add from a guy in Essex for the same car showing that it was sold quite recently, given the MOT date. With the different location of current owner and the fact that he has used the same images and text, it looks like it was bought, £2500 added to the price and put up for sale again?
