RE: Ford Cortina 1.6 GL: PH Carpool
Discussion
Void bush replacement kept many a small garage in employment through the 80s, I think we used to average at least 5 cars a day. Strangely the Mk3 didn't seem to suffer as badly with bush replacement, they also had slightly different 'adjustable' lower axle bush mounting plates with a toothed plate that locked in position. MkIV & V's just had a plain hole.
Compared to an RS2000 of the same era, the Escort was lighter, quicker accelerating (by about 1.5 seconds from 0-60) but not that much faster (106mph for the Cortina, 110mph for the RS). In comparison the Cortina handled like a barge thanks to the same suspension set up that gave it such a comfy (by comparison) ride.

Plus after 60 the gap would just keep increasing - certainly a Mk2 RS vs Mk4 Cortina 2-litre was no contest point to point. I think the 1.6litre Fwd Cavalier my Dad got after his 2-litre Cortina was almost the same performancehere's one for the Cortina fans a peach of Cortina, a mk5 2.3 ghia, one owner up for auction next week with quite a low guide price

Mine was only a 1979 boggo 1.6l (mk IV ?), but a quick trip to the local scrapyard and £25 later saw me the proud owner of a gold velour interior, some "wood" trim for the doors, Mk V bumpers and grill and a few Ghia enamel badges. 1990 was pimptastic
The colour was Royal Blue to the upper half of the car, and black underseal to the lower half - and I don't just mean the sills, it was halfway up the doors

Think everyone of a certain age has some connection to these cars. My very first car was a Cortina 2.0S. Love to see a 17 year old insure the equivalent these days!
Great to see another one of these being driven, and enjoyed. The surviving E-Types, SLs and DBs will always be around. But great to see 'normal' stuff preserved. They're not making anymore, and some examples have already disappeared forever.

Always wanted a 2.0s because it had the really cool black rear panel!Think everyone of a certain age has some connection to these cars. My very first car was a Cortina 2.0S. Love to see a 17 year old insure the equivalent these days!
