I was surprised recently at the pace of a 125d
As good as that is it is not a competitor to the M135i. One does 0-100 in 11 seconds the other 16+ seconds worlds apart.

I cant be the only one who doesnt get the "junior supercar" tag - it just isnt.
Having driven one - great hot hatch, but in no way does it have the drama or sense of occasion such a tag would warrant.
It didnt feel that fast, certainly not as quick as the numbers say.
It left me feeling nothing. Not hating it, but nowhere near loving it.
As a comparison, I drove an e92 M3 not long after and was seriously impressed.

It was the opposite for me, and I chose the E82 135i over the E92 M3 (as great as the M3 is, it was a LOT of extra Wonga to run, for no real major step up in terms of 'real world' driving dynamics other than the couple of times a year if I got it on a track)However, when the M235 came out, and had a test drive, I wasn't impressed and chose to keep my E82 135i which felt a bit more raw and alive compared to the newer M135/M235.
I'd still take a M135.M235 over many other non-BM options though.

I can see how people would prefer the drive, and not justify the cost difference - but I just dont get how it is getting this junior supercar tag. And as for the dynamics, I was certainly more impressed with the M3 than the 1-series.
It isnt a bad car, far far from it - It makes sense as a cheap performance car, but it just isnt this legend of a car people seem to make out.
Maybe I am cranky in the morning

I think the "junior supercar" thing is taking the piss out of some of the more over enthusiastic owners. Like 335d (mapped) being able to keep up with a Veyron in 3rd gear between 50 and 50.8 MPH and so on.
ahhhh. Ok then my bad. It is just me in a morning rant.I dont know what you mean about the 335d, a remapped one is pretty much the fastest car on the road.

I don't think anyone seriously thinks of it as a Junior Supercar i think its a little tongue in cheek. And as for the dynamics, I was certainly more impressed with the M3 than the 1-series.

What it is is great value for money especially if you picked one up on a cheap lease. The engine is very very good indeed and for circa £300 per month it is IMO a steal.
I'm not sure its fair comparing it to a full on M car especially an M3 which is vastly more expensive, I think its got a bot of legend about it as it was the first of the new super hot hatches and lets face it 320 hp in a RWD fairly smallish car is pretty good.
FWIW Ive had mine for 8 months of a 2 year lease and I'll be honest the excitement of it has now worn off, its still a nice fast car to drive and I personally think the interior is very nice and the Pro Nav is outstanding, I won't be getting another or another BMW for that matter as it just doesn't feel 'special' to me, I'll be hopefully getting back into another Cayman as I loved my last one.

I've had mine for 14 months now, cost £300 on a 6 + 23 lease. Its fast, reasonably economical (30mpg) and sounds great when you start it up. My friend has Golf 7R and when he drives mine he's always impressed by the pace of it - though not the lack of grip.
I think in the future there's not going to be too many hatchbacks with a 3 litre turbo engine, if any, and for that reason alone its worth picking one up for a while if you can get one for a good deal. I'll deffo miss mine when its gone...
