I've seen one up close and I can't even remember if I took the time to check out the interior. They're neat because they are uncommon, but I'd never have guessed they would appreciate. Mainly, because there isn't much about them to appreciate.
So your clearly wrong then.... laugh because they have "appreciated".... hehe and having owned one think they are a very a underestimate car.. and for anyone to compare a Comparison with the far heavier V8 E39 M5...! yikes No No ...!

Always been a strong market for these, yes they have risen on the tide recently but they haven't been below 120k for years.

I think it's a lovely looking thing and can see the appeal to a collector with a number of cars, not as your one and only car of course much "better" cars for that money.

Fabulous looking thing but by all reports they're pretty rubbish.

I have driven lots of E39 M5s and a Z8 or two. The Z8 has more grip and does not suffer from understeer. If you drive both with the traction control on the M5 will be trying to limit the wheel spin whereas at the same point the Z8 will put the power down.

seems to be the same group of cars floating around, each time dealers ramping up prices further, with no evidence of cars selling on the way up....

from my experience behind the wheel of a z8, the ride is pretty awful, steering so-so and the drive-train much better suited to the m5.

nice looking car, but that's about it for me.

good luck to the dealers! roll-on the next gratuitous price hike!

You have to admire the way that Hexagon have managed the market of the Z8 to drive the prices up as high as they are.
Yes, they charged way above market values very early on.

Absolutely lovely looking car though. I couldn't give a fk that it isn't the last word in driving dynamics - it looks absolutely fabulous. *goes off to buy Euromillions ticket*

Period reviews of the Z8 had it trounced by the Merc SL.

They aren't even that rare, they made getting on for 6000 of them.
Exactly correct!

The perfect example of how to buy up everything in sight when up for sale and then only release it back on to the market in dribs and drabs, at artificially grossly inflated prices thus giving the impression of rarity and exclusivity. Just like De Beers did with diamonds!

Diamonds are particularly rare or beautiful...and neither are Z8s.

There was a sale in excess of 180,000 euro at the RM Sothebys auction in Paris earlier in the year.

The Alpina version (Alpina V8 Roadster) was supposed to be a much, much better drive and, as an auto only, was very well suited to cruising round the Riviera...

I am fortunate to own a Z8. It was bought for considerably less than 180k GBP!

Some obsevations

1. The cars were originally delivered on first generation run flats- nasty things that impacted the ride and handling. Mine rides beautifully- initially on moden run flats and more recently on 21 inch Michelin Pilots

2. The construction of the cars is amazing- they are very stiff and beautifully made.

3. The Z8 feels like a modern day E type fitted with V8 muscle (I know..I have a E type)

4. The car looks a bit under wheeled and so I fitted Alpinas to it

5. Jeremy Clarkson did more damage to the reputation of the Z8 than any other car apart from the Vectra. His piece on the Alpina vs standard car was as usual attention seeking. Yes the car as a tourer will be lovely. But its lovely as a usable muscle car too.

6. The steering is a tad slow but feels great in sweeping corners. Its no Ferrari but which BMW is??

7. Would I buy it for 180k GBP- probably not...would I sell it for 180 GBP...definitely not..

Absolutely spot on - perfectly put.

My old man has a Z8 and my uncle has an Z8 alpina - there is often talk about selling the Z8 and I always express my disgust at the suggestion.

However I am not a rich Arab, I am Sam from the West Midlands so I'll stick with my shoddy 318 SE.
If you were a rich Arab you'd buy a BMW 507 and laugh at people driving Chris Bangle's retro-copy.
Henrik Fisker design IIRC.

The car design was the effort of a design team led by Chris Bangle. The exterior was designed by Henrik Fisker and the interior by Scotty Lempert.

Not mine for sure. I live 'down the road' and haven't been to Dubai in it. There are a few around in the GCC. They seem to be becoming quite sought after- which is highly unusual for old cars (here anything over 3 years old is considered a classic and pretty worthless)
