After much deliberation it looks like I will be selling my Mazda 6 MPS. It isn't quite floating my boat.

I am likely to go back to an E39 M5, but I am wondering what else for £10k is out there that will entertain me? The M5 is on the cards as a standard one (without back box delete) should be quiet enough in the cabin for my hearing condition. Any other offers?

Won't bore you with E39 M5 love.

My E39 530d is in for its MOT as I compose this (and worrying how bloody crusty it is now) so I've been giving some headspace to a potential replacement. Not a like-for-like replacement but a V8 of the petrol persuasion to sit alongside the M5.

If you don't need 4 doors something like this might work for you too, Mike?:-

Would prefer a manual but all I could find was a ragtop:-

I dont need 4 doors, I just prefer 4 doors generally.

I dont really like the 6 series (the current one is better looking). If I go back to BMW then it has to be an M really.

Presuming that you want a V8, the 2 default options that will no doubt come up in this thread:

More raw = Monaro

More refined = XJR / XKR

Hie about a Jag XKR, (insert here) 55AMG or Alpina V8?

I think the Monaro would be too loud for my ears sadly.

The E55k has already been vetoed by the gf lol

I think I'm not old enough yet for a jag...

I've heard too many horror stories about the C5 RS6 that I am very put off it

Thanks guys.

It's a bit of a myth regarding the turbos, K04s tend to last fairly well and my car is on its originals at 150k. Sadly, RS4s do seem to go through electrical items like coil packs, EGT sensors, lambda sensors and MAFs with great regularity. I had an E39 M5 at the same time as my RS4 and would generally drive the M5 given the opportunity. I convinced myself I needed an estate though, something I now regret a bit.

Hmmm, I guess its always the case, you hear more stories of things going wrong than you do of things working.

The K04's on the Mazda MPS range are pretty poor lol.

Interesting that you preferred the M5 over the RS4..

My car's only running 415 BHP and you can push the standard K04s to 500 BHP with the right supporting mods, at which point they probably fail more regularly. From what I've read, K03s on the S4 appear to fail quite frequently. As for preferring the M5, the RS4 wallows quite a bit, though I've got a thicker rear ARB with uprated mounts to go on, which apparently helps substantially. Much of it is that I miss RWD and an NA V8. smile One thing that is better about the RS4 is the modification world, should you like doing such things. Having said that, the ESS supercharger kit for the E39 M5 is quite cheap....

I bet it still picks up nice though at 415bhp!

Yeah I think all of the VAG cars with K04's have the better ones over the ones fitted to the MPS. I know what you mean about RWD NA V8! Its what I miss.

The ESS Supercharger is a good option, though it isnt intercooled so it'd develop heat soak quickly, though for $5000 plus customs, it is still pretty good value.

Agreed, I've seen some interesting dyno charts with repeated runs on the non-intercooled ESS setup.

The problem with it is that you cannot supercharge it afterwards either, it is positioned wrong for it.
