Yes I know they're the same sort of seat, but I'm a bit of a traditionalist smile. Plus I actually quite like the half-leather/alcantara 'RenaultSport' embroidered ones.

The Megane is a fantastic car, probably one of the best cars you can own for all-round performance. But I didn't love it, I liked it very much. I'm not saying I love the Clio - yet, but there is definitely something about it, maybe an underdog quality - I always want to see the Skyline beating the Porsche, or the Supra beating the Ferrari. Plus it's just so fun and chuckable, parts for it don't cost much and you haven't forked out £40k for something that you're terrified of driving anywhere near what it's capable of.

Plus somehow it's got cruise control, auto xenons, wipers and auto climate control. Mad little thing driving

I had number 036 but had to sell it as I was going travelling. I loved this car it was amazing and had so much character. I now own a mk4 R32 which sounds insane but is no where near as fun to drive as the Trophy. Think I might have to get my self another one as a weekend car / investment.

Glad you'r enjoying it!

Now on my 2nd Trophy. Sold the first as mrs had a baby so got something slightly bigger (Clio 200, I did say slightly), but the newer car, though brilliant wasn't quite as much fun. Ran a 172 track car, crashed it, bought a Clio V6 (what a car by the way in sense of occasion terms), sold it, got a MINI GP but realised it was nowhere near as good as the T I had all those years ago for ~ twice the price.

So onto my second and loving it arguably more than the last one. This is a keeper and I'll do trackdays ,b road blasts out and general hooning about and having a bit of fun.

Anyone going to the Renaultsport trackday at Oulton Park in August? That'll be a great day

This article was the straw that broke the camels back. After reading it I had a quick glance on the classifieds and found a 172 Cup for sale near me on clio sport. 3 viewers on Sunday, up at crack of dawn to get there first and deal was done as first viewer arrived. A lot is written about the handling of these cars but WOW. If you haven't tried one please do whilst you still can and there are bargains about.

I've just dropped it off for the dreaded cambelt and dephaser service. Wish me luck!

I believe there has been some backlash over this sale on Cliosport. The first viewer has kicked off a litte.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know what was said, I made an arrangement and was there as per agreed. I can understand his disappointment though.

Congratulations. So much fun for the money.

Having owned both a low mileage collectable Trophy and now a 'project' 182 with budget modifications I can confirm there is a big difference between the best of these cars and the worst. They will both drive well enough but when all well maintained and sensibily modified they are something else.

I've just had Bilstein B14s fitted to my 182 and the drive is now very comparable to the Trophy. With the weak euro these can be bought for around £500 from Germany direct. I thoroughy recommend these coilovers.

I've bought a set funding by selling all the chavy (IMO) intakes, cheap coilovers and decat systems which were fitted to my car. They don't make you any faster, just noisier. The car is a proper quietish hooligan machine now.

I believe he'd done the same, and thought the seller was a bit underhand. The topic was removed I think so didn't see all the ins and outs.

Thanks for the comments and tips about the bilstein suspension. I'll certainly keep those in mind for the future. It's got new Cup original shocks on and the handling is lovely.

That's amazing to read! I'm glad I'm able to spread the Renaultsport love. Make sure you get yourself signed up to the Renaultsport track day at Oulton Park in August and I'll see you there!

I'm massively tempted to move on my Type R and get a Trophy. My old 182 was by far one of the best cars I've owned.

I bought a 182 Cup in Inferno Orange a few months back as a commuter - only paid £1850 and it had recent full service inc cambelt and dephaser. Its a cracking little thing and really is so much fun when you push on..... the lift off oversteer is something else!! Mechanically appears to be solid too which is impressive given that it has over 105k miles on the clock. Will be definitely keeping this for a while and it should complement the Evo nicely.

How much should one be paying for a 172 Cup?

Thanks Ben! I'm very tempted trust me. Will keep an eye out for you if I do take the plunge.

Thankfully I was right and the specialist agrees I've landed a good one. Was a little nervous putting it in!
Should get it back tomorrow after the big service plus taking chance to fit braided brake lines from KTEC. It came with a few KTEC goodies but looks totally standard externally and as good as inside too.

I've ordered Renaultsport mats, 172 Cup b pillar badges and of course a keyring today haha.

These cars are infectious!

I've been looking at prices on and off for a few months. I think £2k for a decent one with belts and dephaser done. Less if it's needed but remember to budget for it as its an expensive job.

I would highly recommend it!
