I subscribe to Motor Sport and Octane. Not what the OP would want though because he's not into classics.

EVO, Classic & Sports Car mostly and Top Gear now and again. I also stack a few of them up before a holiday, much better than a book, easy to lift and lay when ever.

Autocar, and before that Motor (ffs!). Car, though better in the black and white days, Setright, Bishop etc, but still eclectic. EVO for a Eurowin’s prawn shop. TG rarely, but I still chuckle on occasion.

But where? WHERE do you retire to in your moment(s) of solitude?

Performance Car was the best until it's demise, which then morphed into Evo. Used to love it and subscribe, articles were descriptive and the photography amazing, then it turned into "Porsche Owners Monthly and Repeated Reviews with Different Ratings Depending on the Direction of the Wind.com"

Now I'm now more of an Octane and Sports and Classic Cars reader.

My only guaranteed purchase every month is 'Motor Sport'. And although I may be an old fart now, even as a young fart I was a monthly buyer. There's a new German magazine similar out now too, for the life of me I can't remember the name as I'm away from home atm, but it's a good read - although the translation to English is a bit sketchy in places.

Car and Auto Italia here. Gave up on Evo and Top Gear years ago, and only read Auticar at the library...aka WH Smiths.

Finished my subscription to EVO. It's the same every issue. I still subscribe to Octane, easily the best mag.

I might be imagining it, but didn't "Performance Car" make a comeback quite recently (around 2008ish)?

I seem to remember it being pitched as a retort to EVO which had gone a bit crazy with expensive Lambos, Porsches, Ferraris etc. and PC would only feature cars under £50k?

If I recall correctly, the launch issue had a RenaultSport Twingo as its cover car.

I suspect it might have died again as I haven't seen it on any shelves for a while.

Ahh yeah you're right.

I think a red Twingo was a later issue.

Agreed, they all seem to be of a good standard I enjoy Motorsport the most though, although I only purchase the magazines at shows when I can get a few issues for £1/2 or when flying.

Would have been Evo for the last few years and before that Car in the days of Bulgin and Setright. Evo is not as good as it once was and I'm becoming increasingly charmed by Octane. Might be an age thing...

I read Evo and Autocar through their Twitter feeds and e mails but I've not bought a magazine in years

Subscribe to Motor Sport here - superb writing and knowledge from the team that put it together. It gets read cover-to-cover twice before the next one arrives.

Octane would be the only other one I'd consider.

'MotorSport' have got their act together in the past couple of years. It pretty much covers everything: new cars, classic cars, historical and current motorsport.

I assume this is because they are independent so don't have to limit themselves to a niche.

Appreciate that it as online magazine but Winding Road is well written.

Still miss CAR magazine with the excellent Setright articles, anyone remember Cycle Magazine, the US motorcycle magazine?

That is my favourite magazine now but it's not a car mag in my book like say EVO. I know it has a few new car reviews but it's not the same. I love it for the historical content.

Have a sub to both but frequently don't read all of EVO as it seems a bit dull and repetitive these days. Have subscribed for around 10yrs so maybe that's why! They do still produce the odd gem of a story though.
