The T-5R of course we all know about. Its lairy performance (245hp and six seconds 0-60)
Are those figures from a test in the U.S. with a rolling start?

As standard they're not quick off the mark, forte seems to be in-gear

The smaller models seem to be quicker - S40 T5 has GT86 performance
Are you talking about the T-5R? (The engine tuning was co-developed with Porsche).
Yes, I was just interested to see the test figures.

I wondered why Autocar's T5R and 850R were so much slower

Had many T5's, these are by far the best! easily tune-able and no stupid ME7 management like on the later V70's!

Stick some 850R wheels and boot spoiler and it will transform the look of the car!

A great car and a great shed. I loved my T5R estate, which I should not have sold, pity.

Ours did eat front tyres, started off on premium stuff like Michelins but got bored of spending so much and ended up on Fulda's, it was the tyre equivalent of trying to feed an Irish Wolfhound on those little expensive sachets of Dog Food usually bought for spoilt lap dogs.

I was browsing T5s lastnight. There was a blue C70 with long MoT and recent clutch on eBay for <£500.

I think I must be one of the only people on PH who prefers the saloon shape 850. There's just something about that three-box shape. I would imagine the saloon is a little less 'boomy' on the inside at speed also?
I quite like the look of the S70 in the right spec. and colour. It's a good looking car in both forms.

Some of the appeal for is that these are now relatively small as cars have got larger with each model revision.

Shed's musings raised a chuckle here.

Drop links for the front anti roll bars are a weak point - cheap and easy to replace though.

My type of car (obviously) but I find the cloth seats and manual box a bit of a turn off. Also rusty wings....... never seen a rusty one so that seems odd to me.

Looks alright but with a short MOT it can't be more than £600 really ?

I bought a T5 manual off Ebay last August. I planned on keeping it for a month, using it for a house move, then getting something more economical, but it's still with me, ten months later. In that time all it's needed is some oil and new tyres; if you're in the market for a cheap fast barge, I emplore you to get one!

The only downsides I've found are the excessive fuel consumption (low 30's on a run, so not totally ridiculous, but still...) and the fact that every time anyone you know needs to move anything remotely bulky, they come straight to you - though this probably isn't such an issue with the saloon version however...

I've owned one of these (850 T5 GLT) since last October, such a great car and I've enjoyed gradually restoring it to top condition, currently on 138k miles with full Volvo service history!

It has a few power surprises and is certainly no slouch, here are some pics:

Interior shots from when I bought it, no real changes apart from it now has a nice biege leather padded armrest and cup holder from a later model, it's also a bit cleaner now after some Meguires leather love, you can also see how much difference the Plasticare bumper treatment made from this early picture:

I very rarely write "LOL" as there's not much that actually makes it happen. But in this instance - LOL
