Mr Hooky, that is a really nice example.
+1

Some cars don't suit Green, but that shade looks really nice on the TT.
Green!?

This article is a well rounded, coherent masterpiece -on stone tablet- about hairdressers.

Looks Green to me in the bottom photo, but perhaps I'm wrong. Looks nice anyway.

It's Dolomite grey, same colour as my old one. A very tidy looking example as well cool

The stripped out, last of the line Quattro Sport model was a very good car. Their values would appear to be on the up too.

Maybe I am in a minority bu I think the Mk1 looks terribly dated now.

MK2 is so much fresher, its at least three evolutionary steps on from the Mk1.

I also remember the first owners crashing at high speed.

Audi then fitted the rear spoiler for more down force.

Vorsprung Durch technik - Yeah right, that's had months of safety testing then,,,,NOT

That and the well known instrument binnacle failure put me right off.

Oh yes and a Silver Mk1 was in a Victoria Beckham video as she was trying to convince us she was a Pop star. Bad PR that one as it was just as Mk2 came out as well.

Yeah, still plenty of time yet.

This is the video that decided me I wanted a 350Z when it was pitched against a TT Sport.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41GWmcMK7jc

Since then I realised that I don't actually go everywhere sideways, so the TT would have been fine.

Funnily enough I had a little (sensible) dice with the new TTS the other day, a 15 plate blue one and expected my arse handing to me, very little in it, I really thought it would be a lot quicker, maybe it wasn't run in, I let on to the driver but he didnt look impressed, it sounded nice though.

I want my wife to get one and then I can borrow it, still stuck with carting kids around and two daft cars arent an option and the C1 doesnt count as a proper car.
20/30bhp difference isn't going to let any car blast away from you when you're already 270+?, perhaps if you swap driver? (given the notional hairdresser in the TT)laugh

I've had the dilemma regarding the kids before. Not an easy one mate or, if like me, you'd have a drive full of cars not family friendly and just call a taxi for the kids!
Mines the 300 bhp one, the TT is lighter and it had the DSG box which changes gear a lot quicker than I can manage, I honestly expected a pasting, I had a look and the new TTS does 100 in eleven and a bit and mine is like 14, very little in it, I had expected it to romp away thinking mine was probably more on a par with the regular TT.

The fast VAG stuff does seem to be very highly rated for performance but like you say, can be down to driving style, also I think the stuff like the Golf R are really quick as standard, but at the end of the day, it has the same 296 bhp as mine, it will be a bit quicker, but perhaps not night and day, unless remapped, then I am dead in the water !

Have just gone through the process of helping a friend decide on a car, and he has gone for an unmolested Y-reg 1.8T Quattro.

He was asking for advice on cars, looking for something fun but he's not an experienced car buyer or a manic pistonhead so we spent some time going through choices. It forced me to do a bottom up assessment from first principles of what was suitable as opposed to just going by instinct - "You want an E46 330 coupe. Job jobbed." smile Looking at it objectively, the TT is a fantastic ownership proposition.

I believe ESP too - it was quite a well publicised recall at the time? Maybe even suspension settings too? Wonder if any car DIDN'T have the recall work done, that would be a rare and "interesting" drive!

Have to agree, a clean MK1, especially the 3.2 run out special with the black roof, is a good looking machine. The Mk2 still looks very smart and nicely proportioned though and in someways I do see it as an improvement in the looks department. But the new one, it just does nothing for me. Seen a few about now and if I had the money to buy one, I don't think I would.

We had both a Mk1 & Mk2 TT
Both 3.2 DSG's

First one was far superior in build quality and much quirkier to drive!

Were not all the crashes on the Autobahn on lifting off the accelerator sharply at around 150mph? I dont think it was a relevant issue in the UK, frankly.....

Think so - again vague memory of 120mph but sure someone can confirm it. Either way, I'm totally onside with it being a nice car, just understood from contemporary road tests that it was a more interesting steer before the recall changes. Guess I'm wondering if any escaped the process and if so could they be worth more in the long term future?

I dislike the MK1 TT purely for the reason of the plastic window sill of a spoiler, Audi had to add to stop the car from crashing - doubly terrible engineering.

The MK2 looks too heavy round the sills.

I do like the look of the MK3 though.

I had a Merlin Purple one as my first car back in 2002:-

It was extremely reliable and I really enjoyed it whilst I had it. Good times!

Sold mine back in March, and keep looking at them going "Hmm... I wonder if I could have another one".

Loved the engine, loved the looks, HATED the suspension. Truly shockingly crashy and hard. Mine had the later S-Line springs and the big wheels though. It meant that, on anything other than a dead smooth road, it was simply too uncomfortable to drive quickly.
