Great car if you are not pay silly money for options, but I would rather have a Cayman for fun or an M5 as a family car. The M4 is large on the outside but the coupe styling just doesn't work and it needs a better exhaust and some tuning to make it go faster in all situations. DMS need a visit me thinks.
I dont know why, but since looking at a 235m at BMW and seeing a M4 i been left wanting one and now lost interest in the 235M. When i speced one up it wasnt to bad as long as you dont go mad on unneeded bits. This is also the first car where im tempted to tick the 2500 DCT option. I would always have a man box over a Auto. Im yet to take a test drive as still weighing up if i can justify the extra over the 235

£73k after options - Stone me..
Who do they think they are - Porsche?BMW M cars see to have lost a little of that specialness they always had, and why people question the price. I am sure a £15k discount could be easily arranged off that list price, supply probably exceeds demand.
The M3 seems so right, but at £50k'ish.

I read that these sound a bit polite, I had one trying to goad me into a race the other day and it sounded anything but polite, it sounded pretty epic and I passed up the kind offer of my arse on a plate.
A neighbour appears to have just got one as well, quite jealous !
I've seen a few out and about in London. Agreed, sounded (and looked!) pretty epic to me.A neighbour appears to have just got one as well, quite jealous !
Perhaps the ones I've heard had an option sports exhaust or something aftermarket?
Regardless, looked ruddy brilliant!
The problem with the exterior sound of the M4, is the exhaust flaps, they seem to me to be very dynamic and open and close at all sorts of throttle settings. In efficient mode they are shut and it's very quiet outside.
But it is a loud exhaust for a standard exhaust, multi storey car parks are great fun.
What Bmw should of done is provide a flaps open/closed button and a way of turning the active sound off. I'm still loving it as its manual but will be seeking an aftermarket solution to the exhaust valves.

STILL charging for a centre armrest??? FFS BMW!!! And £1600 for some headlights
I have never paid extra for improved headlights on any car I have always seen enough without ever crashing and I peddle cars fast I also don,t eat carrots so am I alone or are there any other people who can use standard headlights ?Shelling out that amount of money and not getting a good noise as standard is poor I would not be happy at having to buy a sports exhaust to get the right noise bmw have been out manoeuvred by Merc sticking to its v8 range of engines they have managed to keep a great sound by going down turbo route so it can be done learn your lesson bmw.
I'm good with the looks of both the m3 and m4. I'm not keen on the show off colours (putrid yellow, chav orange and Brighton beach hut blue), black seems to hide the lines too much as well. At its base price it actually seems decent value although when I look at the price of any BMW product my mind instantly knock at least 15% off.
My biggest issue is the way it's set up to wallop all that torque so low down. It's set up like its aimed at making people who have no idea a car revs beyond 5k drive fast. I think sniff petrol hit the nail on the head when they said it was now aimed at apprentice types done well who have a need for a recognised top of the range car to show off with.

The sound is not 'fake', it's simply real-time sampled engine bay noise played through the speakers. It's certainly not as awful as people make out. I agree that the car is large, but its mass and control is impressive when you consider its dimensions. Also, the car has a much better front end than my Cayman GTS and the straight line performance is huge; 0-100mph in 8.5-8.7 seconds. That's F430 territory. It's also fun to slide around, if not the fastest car point to point.
The worst part of these cars is the traction limitation, even in the dry. You really need to have it in M dynamic mode or the DSC intervenes frequently.
