RE: Ford Focus RS: Time For Tea?

Biggest disappointment of the year. As a mk2 owner (see carpool) I was waiting with baited breath. After seeing it in the metal at Le Mans I was very let down buy the looks. Lots of grey plastics and a lack of aches and vents. I'm sure it will drive amazing and be quick but the interior and exterior just don't look anything other than standard focus!
Not seen one in the flesh, but do agree on the exterior looks, it's certainly a lot tamer in that area - guess they're moving away from the Civic look and aiming to sell it to Golf GTI/R, A Class AMG and S/RS3 buyers....Sounds good and I bet it is a riot to drive. Buuuuut I still prefer the ASBO looks of the MK2, not to say the MK3 is bad, it has grown on me. But I just wish they went the same way as Honda rather than try and tone it down, still it is better looking than a Golf R and the rest of the VAG range.
As for how often it will be pinched, it has been shown time and time again that Ford give 0 fks about their cars being nicked so easily. As shown with the MK2 RS, Fiesta ST and Transit vans, if an exploit is found you can be damn sure they won't lift a finger.

It looks fun but it sounds rubbish, and that blue is the colour my mum would choose. Why can't you get a decent deep blue like the original Mk1 FRS?
4 cylinder engines, universally, sound rubbish. Unless its a screamer that does 9000+ rpm. But even then, there isn't a lot of finesse or anything operatic to the sound. Its just a noise. To be honest, even Ferrari V8's don't sound great to my ears. Their flat planed crank basically just makes them 2 inline 4's sharing a crank. So now you have two un-melodic I4's barking away. Its odd really. 3's and 5's have interesting off-beat warbles. 6's rasp and sound rorty, cross plane 8's sound like they're ripping the air apart, V10s shriek and wail, V12's are pure opera. Then we have inline 4's. That sound like threshing machines and if they're fitted with a nice exhaust to try illicit some more vocals, they often just sound farty.

I partly agree. Honda managed to produce some lovely screamers, and the Subaru and old Alfa boxers sound fantastic, but most modern 4s are just horrible. At least this doesn't sound as bad as the A45 which is like a cartoon version of a rally car with all its fake burps and farts. The old Alfa Nord engines and the Fiat twin cam were also great sounding, but mainly when they still had carbs. Not in the wet, they won't....
Not in the dry either! A few extra mk2 horses will mean nothing on anything other than a straight road. Besides, who's to say there won't be similarly impressive power upgrade options on offer for the mk3? Ford have kept the power at about 320 bhp in order to meet their incredibly tight reliability regime (do you realise they run these engines at the red line continuously for 3 MONTHS before passing them?!?!) - I'm sure it's capable of significantly more.
Plenty of older I4's sounded great, I am guessing it has to do with equal length exhaust manifolds and twin scroll turbo's ruining the audio but I stand to be corrected. I have had a few I4's that made lovely music, phase 1 Clio 16V, Corsa B 1.4 and 1.6 16V (induction noise!), Impreza STi.
If you were to watch some Group B rally you would struggle to find a car that doesn't sound much better than the recent offerings. T16 205, S4 Delta, RS200 for example. The group A cars sounded good too.
I chose to sacrifice some number stats on my Impreza to get a better sound, and not go the JDM twin scroll route which on paper is the better car.
I hope manufacturers pay attention more to sounds as a car needs to sound great imo to get "legendary" status.

Your mum sounds cool, maybe she had a pale blue Mk 1 RS 2000 or a Gulf Blue 911 2.4s ?
What happened to you ?
Wow, personal insults over an opinion on colours. Did I hurt you feelings? You should talk to the school nurse about dealing with these new emotions. What happened to you ?
