I love the DB9 but I think the new ones are getting a bit long in the tooth now - they were groundbreaking 12 years ago when they first surfaced, but selling the same car now is starting to wear thin. I remember thinking the DB9 was the best looking car I'd ever seen when I was 13. I'm 25 now and the fact that it's still available new devalues the car for me a bit.

To put it into comparison, when the DB9 first came out, Ferrari were selling the 360 new. Nowadays you can buy a 488 GTB.

Please don't see this as a moan about Aston as I still would love a DBS or a V12V.

The thing is that the DB9 in 2004 was way, way ahead of its time. The VH chassis architecture is also still bang-up-to-date. The rest of the world is still playing catch-up - or failing to, in the case of some German rivals still building 2-ton steel barges (BMW 6-series, I'm looking at you!). It also (arguably) perfected the Aston Martin design language we've come to know so well. It's sold pretty well. It is, for my money, the most iconic (yes, that overused cliché) car design of the 21st century. I certainly can't think of anything else that so marks an epoch for its company. Andy Palmer has a tough job on his hands ensuring that its replacement is up to scratch. The last time AM had to replace such a landmark car was in the early 80s when the old V8 Vantage was finally pensioned off. The result was the much-maligned Virage. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake again.

I'll have my DB9 with a manual gearbox, please, and preferably the bigger headlight units they used up until 2010-11ish... the smaller ones they put on thereafter look too small to me, both aesthetically and functionally - a bit like the piggy-eyed 599.

Fantastic car but...

Diamond cut rims yuck

Or perhaps I'm alone in my opinion? Can anyone honestly say they've looked upon some diamond cut wheels and thought 'mmm, nice!'?
I like them. smile
