Awesome drive from Ryan though, he was on fire well before he was "on fire"

Did he start from the pitlane because he'd already shagged one engine in practice?

Great overtaking, but if you don't have car sympathy then you're not going to win anything.

That will come with training/experience/running out of money/poor media reaction

Ryan now understands that he needs to be careful with over rev's but the general view from people who know about these things is that it probably was not the high rev's that caused the problem. Ryan has already won two races this season so he is winning things. If you looked at most professional drivers in an Elise race car, they push them hard, if you don't push hard you won't be quick.

As I explained in my previous post, he started from the pit lane due to a problem with the alternator that the team could not fix in time. I'm not sure if your post is made tongue in cheek which would be a shame as most posters have been very supportive of Ryan and not the usual PH negativity.

The media reaction has on the whole been very positive

The engine was built by a company that are race engine specialists. A nice thought about using a ZR road car engine but that would not be very competitive.
Did Rob Boston supply the car? I am sure this is the car I saw him test at Blyton. He told me Blink did the head but not touched the bottom end - straight out of a ZR... Maybe I am wrong.

Yep, Rob built the car

The bottom end is out of a ZR but it is rebuilt with motor sport bearings etc

I was on post at Old Hall and saw Ryan's Elise go up.

This was my second fire in as many days as a trainee marshal, hope there's not a pattern emerging here!

Many thanks for devoting your time to being a marshal, we would not be able to go racing without you guys. I have retired from many races and stood with the marshal's, they are always the best race fans and often have a great insight into the race. last year my car failed at Shell Oils and I watched the race from the Marshal's post, the young girl waving the yellow flag was getting tired so after a little training I was allowed to wave the flag which seemed to amuse some of my competitors.

It really is a pleasure. Only my second day on the Bank but really enjoying it so far.

Yes. I guess it was because he felt the drivers were weaving too much while defending.
I think there was plenty of flashing before getting close to some guys, but guess with this type of driving you'd do well to jump out the way, that half move at Druids was scary and the other guy did well to give him enough room.
Very well set up car and spirited driving though, a career in touring cars beckons.
Btw, the engine failure had nothing to do with why he was quicker than all others on the straights did it?
All the best for future events.

He looked to be braking a lot later and carrying much more speed through corners which was where I though he was getting a jump down the straights.

He was faster everywhere! As well as making up time into/through the corners, he also looked to have better lines than many of the others, meaning he was on the power appreciably earlier and therefore faster into the straights. This was really noticeable out of Knickerbrook, up the hill.

Great driving - best racing video I've watched in ages! smile Reminds me a little of this classic.

Would running without an alternator not be against regs (marginal power gain as no parasitic loss)?
The regulations don't require you to run an alternator. It will actually slow you down as the performance of the engine goes down as the power of the battery goes down. As Ryan is very light, he can afford to run a huge battery, if he only had a race battery, it would not have lasted the length of the race.

Great suspension setup by the looks - very composed over the chicane curbs where some of the other cars are upset quite a bit by them.

Great racecraft on display and some really good moves, but also excellent awareness by those around him. The totally unnecessary abuse of the headlights left a bad taste, though, there's no need for that.

Why does he feel he has to change down so early? Is the brake bias fixed, and he's attempting to get a better balance, or what?

Enjoyed that! Very similar to our last race where we found ourselves at the back of the grid of both races following an off (and lack of qualifying time set) in practice.

We have been building Rob Boston's Lotus race engines since he started racing in the Lotus series and we thoroughly enjoy working with him and consider him a good friend.

The drive by Ryan is truly awesome and I can't believe some of the negative comments made on this thread! We need to congratulate him on an excellent drive in this race and the previous race - don't knock our young drivers but encourage them - I would far rather have our engines being used like this than running around in the mid-field because the driver was worried about an 'over-rev'.

Here is another great drive by Jason Baker in a Rob Boston Racing prepared car - probably another all time favorite:
