I've said it before, but if you're in the market for a lease car then you need to watch the market for a few months and be prepared to go for a bargain even if it's not exactly what you want.
How do you do this when already on a fixed term lease though? How do you time the start of a bargain deal with the end of your current lease? Given enough notice, can you delay the start of your next lease to coincide with the end of your current one?
This is a tricky one potentially - my Golf R took 3 months longer than was estimated and the whole VW "order then wait indefinitely" process was generally a bit of a farce. As it happens I had use of other cars, but if I'd had a single car on another lease which ended I'd have been left mightily inconvenienced - I'd have either had to ditch the lease and go for something else with a rapid delivery or buy a snotter - both of which would have defeated the object of having gone for the 'too good to be true' lease deal.

On my previous leased company car, it was possible to extend the term on a month to month basis after the initial 36 months, to allow for the overlap between cars.

You potentially have the same problem when you're buying/selling a private car, unless you part exchange your current car with a dealer you have you problem of either selling your existing car before buying another, or having two cars sitting on the drive with all the associated complications of tax and insurance. Part exchanging rarely works out well in my experience, you either get a low value for the car you're trading in or a poor price for the car you're buying, which is fair enough as the dealer has to make money on the trade in.

Am I better off leasing or PCP'ing in my situation? I'd like a Mercedes C class. Ideally I'll only be keeping it for 3 years (length of warranty) then getting rid and having another.

That's rather like asking how long a piece of string is. First show us what figures you've been offered for PCP and PCH.

Thanks. Those are business user deals though, there's no price for personal.

I seem to recall a brief fashion for personal leasing back in the mid 70s, possibly something to do with the VAT rules at the time. Does anyone else remember?

It LOOKS cheap, but you need to get out a spreadsheet before you can evaluate any of these deals properly. At best, and this is rare, they are very slightly cheaper than buying the car and selling it at the end of the period.
Yes I'm sure you are absolutely right. I'm quite cynical about most things in life so whilst the offers have made me look a bit closer, I'm still 99.9% sure I'll go second hand and buy outright. For me personally, the second hand market holds greater variety and interest but up until now, it was usually the other way around so I can see both sides of the coin.

Leasing is getting more tempting for me as I like toys, and these days the cars I like tend to come with all the essential toys. Before adding basics like leather, nav, xenons, would make a lease far too expensive, not anymore.

The E Class above is a great example, standard kit includes, comand navigation, internet, media interface, advanced bluetooth with audio streaming, dab, leather, auto, led adaptive headlights, ambient interior lighting, heated seats and probably other stuff I have forgot, but when there is that much standard kit you don't need to add anything, so the £215 a mont including vat is great value, even when you add in the £1900 initial payment.
It is a car that retails at £37,000, even with a massive discount you are still looking at £31000.

Try and get into a used Merc S212 E Class estate with any warranty left for less than that, you won't.

That Merc E class is a business contract- Would it actually be available to a private individual?

It varies from deal to deal.
