Its not a very fast car either though! and every time I get behind the wheel of my 330i I hanker after more shove and you don't need much power to get the better of one, the A45 is a quick motor though and once tuned they are really quick for sure.
You're right, her car feels pretty slow to me now, especially when you are used to driving an XJR or E55 AMG as a daily for a few weeks!pSyCoSiS said:

:-) you just saved me the bother of replying.
Out of all the modern super hatches or whatever you want to call them, Ive driven an A45, I have an M135i, and Ive driven a Golf R. The BMW has the best engine of those 3 by far.
Always had a soft spot for a BMW straight 6.Out of all the modern super hatches or whatever you want to call them, Ive driven an A45, I have an M135i, and Ive driven a Golf R. The BMW has the best engine of those 3 by far.
A lot of rubbish being spoke here, firstly the price. In short it's a bargain, that may shock a lot of people bit can anyone name a premium practical car that can be bought new with 3 year warranty that can do a near sub 4 sec to 60 mph run? The EVO X 360 was dearer than the A45, the new 440 EVO is 65k!!!
To get something with 4WD and the figures of the A45 new you need 60-70k, 50k for an A45 is mega spec levels most of the time they are low 40's.
It's competition are all good but army quite on par, I'm a A45 owner and ex M135i owner and really don't get this 'only a 4 pot' argument, the M135i has a straight six yes but it can't sound that great or BMW wouldn't want to pump in fake sound through the speakers, why have such a great sounding engine that needs help with sound?
The Golf R suffers similar problems, why are people so scared of having a 4 pot or paying so much for a 4 pot? Is this a willy waving contest, the A45 produces the lost power, tunes the best and is a bespoke engine unlike the VAG unit which is shared amongst many cars and the M135i engine which had many roots in previous engines and the figures suggest that the 2 litre doesn't do too badly.
As for torque figures of the M135i vs the A45 yes the M135i produces peak torque about 700 rpm more but who really needs peak torque at sub 2,000 rpm? That's not far off idling fo Christ sake, if the A45 is in the right gear and travelling then it WILL be in peak torque, if your cornering just change down lol
Reliability wise the merc is no better than any other car but I really can't see how anyone can say the focus or Honda are better inside than the merc, I sat in the new type R at goodwood and it felt hideous to the touch, so cheap and nasty it was unreal and they wanted 33k for it.
It's quite simple if the price is too steep don't buy it lol haters gonna hate

I didn't see any rubbish or hate in this thread, well apart from one poster. Otherwise, good and constructive rationale.
Nothing wrong with the Merc. It's just quite pricey for what it is. I reckon people may prefer a 6 cyclinder because they're inherently smoother ? I appreciate that 0-60 may be important, that's fair enough. But if it was that quick, it would be a lot quicker than 0.5 second / lap, what with 40hp more and 4wd. What has gone wrong ? Seems pretty poor VFM, if performance is THAT important.

Admittedly I was looking at a lower model a few years ago... But I couldn't get over the cheap Chinese tablet gaffa taped to the dash.
On the expensive car might be higher resolution than the one I saw sometime ago... That was low res and it has massive thick bezel made it look like a cheap after thought.
I hoped they sorted that out, but apparently not. The Base model didn't feel premium to me, and was overpriced in comparison to competition. I liked the seats, but that was about it. I didn't buy into the overall package. So an even more expensive version with awd and am big engine doesn't change my view.
I think I'd vote M135i & RWD after owning a warm 6-cyl, looking at the costs and overall fit and finish.

For the last 4 months I have had an A45 as a daily driver. It was an ex demo (3k miles) with most extras and £9k off list from the main dealer.
I tried the others from VW and BMW, (as I had a performance BMW coming out of a lease) before I bought and can honestly say the Merc was a more complete package.
Its not to everyone's taste, agreed but it makes me smile!
I value Harris and Co's opinions and they just about got it right.
