Swap for an R8 ??
Discussion
Being more serious, I have driven the R8 a few times, friend has one, I always felt it was more of a GT than a sports car.
The 997 was either a GT or a sports car depending how you drove it, I just couldn't get excited about the audi where as I have 9 911's in a row.
I just preferred the power delivery of the turbo but its a very personal thing

Hi, it could get me in to a V10, but I thought the service costs, and the costs if it breaks would be horrific as its a Lambo engine ??
The V10 is a solid engine and has less issues than the V8. Service costs are very reasonable and the V10 is based on an Audi lump from the S8 so well tested.I highly recommend you try a V10 before you buy a V8 R8.

Morning All,
I currently have a 2008 manual 997 turbo in GT silver with nice spec, and am considering switching over to a V8 R8 ? what are folks general thoughts, any pitfalls of an R8 ? Budget is up to around mid 60's or so, any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
PS, what are the must have options for the Audi ??
Just made the same jump myself, to a V10 Spyder though, stretch if you can.I currently have a 2008 manual 997 turbo in GT silver with nice spec, and am considering switching over to a V8 R8 ? what are folks general thoughts, any pitfalls of an R8 ? I wanted lots, and not a lot came as standard, took me a while to find my spec:
Suzuka Grey
Carbon int
Reverse Cam
Park sensors
Cruise
Mag Ride (I prefer it) but can be £600 a corner to replace (already had one replaced under warranty) but no more expensive than replacing the bushes and coffin/control arms on a Porsche
Extended leather
It comes with a Long life service plan so servicing is relatively cheap (similar to my Porsche servicing costs)
They're known to use a bit of oil 1ltr/000km but i've done 5k in mine and its not used a drop
I'm in Oxfordshire if you want a nosey round one.
I've spent a bit of time in each, and the 911 is undoubtedly objectively the better car - it's faster, grippier, more practical, more economical, cheaper to run,... but I'd still go for the R8. It has a far more natural feeling chassis, better steering, better throttle response, a better engine note, but most importantly it just feels "special" in a way that the Porsche doesn't.
For me, one feels like a 911 with a turbocharger strapped onto it, the other feels like a supercar.

R8 Spyder: it's more special than the coupe: driving along at night with the little rear window down, hearing the cams and tappets right behind your head is a special feeling.
The only real downside with the Spyder is the lack of any storage space at all in the cabin, combined with the small boot.
