Very very interesting answer, so the V10 is an audi lump first then Lambo, not the other way round ? So should be bolted together correctly then ?? Many thanks. PS, do you have V10 ? whats average MPG . thanks again.
Correct, it was an Audi development of the existing S8 engine for the Gallardo, then detuned for the R8. As far as I know there are no known issues.Yes I have a V10 but no idea of MPG, wouldn't even know where to look! Published figures are around 19MPG I think, I know they are the same as the V8 which is quite interesting. Internet rumour says the V10 is actually more economical than the V8 but haven't sen any evidence myself.
The V10 has a 90 litre fuel tank which does give it excellent range for a thirsty car. R8talk is an excellent resource for internet research, US focused but they sold a lot more there.

Will try and arrange a test drive, thanks for the information, will not be pursuing a V8 for sure, so will try a V10 next, but if not, will keep 911, cheers for now.Yes I have a V10 but no idea of MPG, wouldn't even know where to look! Having been privileged enough to drive both in a track setting I can merely comment how they feel performance wise and not on the road and day to day. Undoubtedly the 997 Turbo PDK that I drove was hugely fast - quite possibly one of the fastest cars I've ever driven and even on the limit it was utterly composed. It also felt very normal inside - feels like a regular German car (no bad thing in my opinion) The audi on the other hand is WAY down on performance although still plenty quick enough. Despite this, for me the Audi felt the more special of the two - more engaging and certainly more characterful. I loved the feel of it and the interior was nicer than the porsche. Personally I'd opt for the Audi. If you can stretch to the V10 then Maybe Its worth checking out, servicing wise, well I doubt there is much in it between a V10 and V8 R8 and last time I checked Porsches weren't exactly cheap to service either so it shouldn't really put you off

I remember my first drive in the R8 - very disappointed.
To me the porsche turbo is as good as it gets for a car that can realistically be used on UK roads.
I know the R8 is hand built and has lots of Aluminium but lets be honest; it's a big TT for big girls blouses
Except for the V10 manual. That's a proper car.To me the porsche turbo is as good as it gets for a car that can realistically be used on UK roads.

The V8 does have a horrendous image, that's for sure. Not really its fault that it has ended up with such an awful demographic of buyers! 'But for only £200 extra a month, we can have a supercar rather than the TT!'

The 911 makes fantastic power, has a good image and is a realistic every day driving proposition whose residuals take a mashing because of mileage.
Id keep the stuttgart slugger over an R8 without question fwiw

I'm getting about 180 to 200 miles (driving like Miss Daisy) out of a tank in mine, didnt realise it was a 90 litre tank, so reserve must be huge !!I went from a lightly modded GTR (600ish bhp) to a V8 R8 and I've been very happy with it. Yes it is down on performance as it would be with a 997 turbo (lack of torque) but as an overall package and driving experience I prefer it.
I understand how it might feel a bit underwhelming,it did to me at first and you really have to nail it to the red line to get the best from it but this is one way in which I find it more satisfying.
If you can afford the V10 then obviously that's the way to go. I would've too but only had a £50k budget so had to make do with the V8!

The factory produces over 30,000,000 engines per year from 4 litres to theoW16"s.
Visited the factory about 15 years ago. Amazing place.
