...it had evolved into a corporate day out, dominated by men in the standard uniform of cream chinos, blue Oxford weave shirt and navy blazer, drinking wine!
It could be worse. If it were held in Surrey you'd have old men with white hair, orange faces, all dressed head to toe in pink All to do with RD - the JPS Lotus livery was on display unedited...
Stunning car, and great watching him go up the hill - although his speed surprised me and it was the only car of the session I didn't catch a photo of!
Completely understand with the views about how it's changed over the years, the night before the first one Lord March was painting the bridge in front of the house wearing tatty overalls.
However, I still contest that along with Revival, they are the best motor related annual events in the World. Would seem to be agreed by the manufacturers - more 'first showings' than I've ever seen in one place.
The fact I can still get a shot of my lad holding Rosberg's wheel leaning up against the front wheel, bump into Sir John Surtees just mooching around, and see such a variety of the World's best cars makes it a must every single year.

Bottom line is, the car retains the iconic red/white colours in the same proportions and design (which is actually the same Marlboro branding carried by Penske, Williams and countless others at various points in time) but just replaces the explicit wording of 'Marlboro.' Really don't see what the fuss is all about tbh.
Williams and Marlboro? Rothmans/Winfield yes, but Marlboro?Edit: I stand corrected.

From what I recall it is nothing to do with any advertising ban, Mclaren are no longer associated with marlboro so Ron Dennis does not want to advertise their products for free so has had all the cars in the official collection changed out.
They are no longer with Shell or Goodyear either, so I'm not sure how this works, nor Honda until this year (again).markcoznottz said:
Wonder how old those goodyears are? . As for actually running the car, either use all the rpm or just park the thing up and use as a mobile paper weight. It's an insult to the sport to not use these cars to their maximum.
After the whole Dave Piper thing I doubt many classics will be getting wrung out any time soon (or ever).Utterly fantastic piece of engineering combined with being associated with one of the greatest ever drivers makes the Honda McLaren one of my all time favourite F1 cars.
I agree it is a huge shame that the car cannot wear it's original graphics, I understand that from a certain date tobacco sponsorship was banned but it seems harsh retrospectively applying the new rule to cars from a previous era.
The thread deserves another picture tribute to the great man & his machine, Spa 91

As alluded to above, I can't see Ron being the type who'd allow free sponsorship of one of his cars now, even an old one. These things are displayed all around the MTC when not in use aren't they? Can't see a load of cigarette logos all over them going down well with new sponsors
