Sorry all, got a rather dull car comparison question. My girlfriend and I are wanting to buy a city car. We've narrowed down to two favourites, vw up (move up trim) 2012 and the hyundai i10 2010-2012 mark 1 (comfort>) trim.

I personally prefer the up but the gf keeps telling me how much more you get for your money with the i10 and I do agree, you can get a newer higuer ttim level in the i10 for at least £1000 less than the up. But I find the i10 quite ugly, obviously I'm the shallow one. Has anyone tried both and got any reasonable arguments for/against either.i'm more interested in how the drive and reliability rather than the equipment but it's still relevant.
Thanks

It won't help you at all but I love the up! It's a great little car, and is definitely what I would buy if the need arose to have a second run about.

In 3 years time you'll sell the Up for in excess of £1000 more than the i10?

^ Is not going to happen.

Up is more fun
i10 had a lot more kit

As much as you want the Up
If she wants the i10... let her have her way.
You should get to benefit the decision in many better ways.

My folks have had 2 i10's - and they will get another.
It is bland, not fun, but it is practical, well specced.... and whoever designed it - knows that people need to get in and out of cars easily.

I have driven the Up!. And it is way more fun - but poverty spec in comparison.

Life is short - Keep your better half happy.

It doesn't matter if it's not going to happen, it matters if she believes him.

And when it doesn't happen.... years of "last time you said...."

I don't think she prefers the i10 it's just better value for money and I do feel that you're paying for the badge with vw but I do prefer the look of it to the sister cars, mi and citigo. Are there any strong arguments for the up over an i10? Another negative for vw I've heard is their parts are expensive and I have assumed hyundai would be cheaper.

If the only basis for your decision is value for money then just go for the i10 and be done with it. The only think the Up has going for it is that its pretty cool for a wee car and its probably a smidge nicer to be in - up to you and your Mrs if you think that's worth paying for or not.

Yeah, i think basically its a case of, if i want the up then i can pay the extra that it will cost to get one over the i10. I really need to sit in both and take them for a spin first, but on looks its the up for me.
thanks

on my ride into work today saw the Skoda version of the up....citicar???
what about that. is that better value than the UP, would it swing the boat more towards that type of car.

.
the i10 is ok, nothing to worry about if you want an easy life an go for that.
my parents have a mk1 and the facelift version. both parents are happy with decent warranty
and service they got from the dealer. (coming from a long line of Fords)

I've driven both, and also the Aygo/C1/107. The Up (and Mii / Citigo) is a much, much better car. The i10 and Aygo are just junk. Cheap nasty crap. The VW is a good little city car.

If you buy the Hyundai you will spend the next three years justifying why its a better car than the VW to everybody who will not be listening, and when they say to your girlfriend show me your dipstick, they mean you.

Go for the i10.
Otherwise you'll spend your life trying to be polite when people ask 'Is that up yours?'

My brother has a Toyota IQ.
He finds it hilarious every time he's told he has small IQ.

My wife has a Seat Mii Mango edition, it's a fab little thing! She test drove the Up but the seat was nicer insider had a larger engine and was cheaper, I wouldn't pay the premium for having a vw badge on the front

As opposed to what, telling people you drive a Hyundai?

The i10 is bigger and better spec, but the Up is a nicer place to be and a better steer. And, for some reason I cannot quite understand, is actually a bit cool.
How will you feel driving the car on your own?

Does a 2012 Up! budget get you into a 2014, new shape i10?
