After having said a negative about my life 100hp I felt a bit bad and thought I should list the major plus points for me - it never went wrong. I ragged fk out of it everywhere (you have to to get it to make decent progress), the cambelt change was only 80 quid and fanbelt a tenner, fitted.... It's seriously cheap to maintain and fix. It is fun. If you can handle being stupidly uncomfortable and the cabin noise on long journeys then it's great tbh. And it's the only car I've had so far ive parked anywhere and didnt get a single mark to the paintwork, I think the paint is quite good quality. Mines actually for sale as have just p/x'd it - it was brilliantly maintained by me and has a fsh - but like I said I did give it a hard time....
I've just bought a Pug 306 GTI-6 as a weekend toy. Sure I've had much faster machinery in the past and I currently have a 335d, however, the Pug is definitely a great bit of kit for the £2,000 I paid, it may have less power than all my previous 'fun' cars but it puts just as big smile on my face. 😀
Just a little update for anyone interested. After looking at all sorts online and seeing 2 e36 318is and an Ibiza FR all of which had a few faults I wasn't happy with, I settled on a pretty tidy 2002 Focus ST170.
