Nothing compared to some on here but, after driving about in a fiesta tdci for a couple of years, I reckoned we didn't need 5 seats anymore as my oldest 2 kids never went anywhere. Trawled through auto trader one night while the wife was out and figured celicas were finally in budget.
Casually happened to be by a dealer selling one next day and stopped for a look. Wife had apparently been dropping hints for ages about getting one and I hadn't noticed so told me to stop messing about and get one bought.
24 hours later deal was done.

A lowly R/T 392 Scat Pack - we're not at the point where you can just walk into a CJDR dealer and drive out in a Hellcat yet. Still commanding around $20k over sticker in this area, if you can find one....

Top man! I need to man up and do the same, frankly.

Despite my work contract ending very soon and having nothing lined up.. I'm tempted to buy a 911, although I should probably wait!

I was on my way to view a Mk6 Golf 1.4 TSI - a very sensibly spec'd and young car with DSG, to replace our two cars with one.

On the way over, I detoured and ended-up buying a Mk5 R32. I then had it supercharged about a year after that...

No idea what I was thinking, TBH. Still got it 18 months later, but willing to let it go if I can find someone with a similar 'devil may care' attitude. Or more money than sense, anyway....

Took pension and bought this. Pension had been in a slump. Realized there was a chance I wouldn't live to pension age anyway, and figured provided I didn't bend it, might actually retain a good chunk of it's value. Also known as a mid-life crisis.
That's called living the dream biggrin

Yeah, I did that back in 2008 actually.

I was 35 years old, and I had just landed a new job in London, on wages that I had up until then only dreamed of. Despite it being only a month into the job, with no idea of how secure it was or even near the end of the trial period - I just thought 'f**k it' - I am 35 now, no family, I have waited long enough, I deserve a 911 biggrin

I had no savings to buy one though - and it would have been reckless to sell one of my investment properties to do so - but I found a nice used example at a specialist, and viewed and bought - subject to approval of 30 grand's worth of finance! yikes

Amazingly, the finance was approved (700 quid a month over 4 years - eek!) and I drove off with my new, reckless whim of a purchase driving

The car turned out to be a complete dog, the most unreliable and expensive pos I have ever owned - but that's another story for another day!

Frequently - Regretted some, not regretted others.....

not in the same league, but I'm eyeing up a Disco 2 ES with leather and electric everything. One owner from new and a lever arch full of service history. The right colour (Epsom Green) and showing only 56k on an 04 plate. Air bag needs inflation and the air con doesn't work (assume a re-gas). Due a service (which is a worry), but a very nice, cared for car. The potential for big bills is a concern, but I reckon it's a goer a £4,500. Even putting some
money in my thought process is I could run it for a year and make a profit on a private sale?

Thoughts? (The sat Nav system is refreshingly simple to use)

Call it old age, but a few years ago I wouldn't have even thought about it......

Well sort of......

Here it is looking very sorry for itself in the workshop at Hethel (many years before I bought it - 1998 now I've checked my records)

It came up for sale in 2000 - sealed bid auction direct from Lotus Cars at Hethel with 21,000 miles on the clock.

This is the one used for

- The Top Gear review on Lotus Carltons

I won't link to the video here tho plenty of versions on you tube

- The car featured in the History of Lotus Cars under Type104 (volumes 1 2 or 3 (it's in em all)

Cover Vol 2

I wasn't sure how to price it for a number of reasons - so that was the "sod it" element of the purchase as at the time I submitted the bit I wasn't sure if I would win it and come to think of it I wasn't 100% sure how I was going to pay for it if I did win it!!!

14 years later I still have it

End of this year I hope it will find a new owner to appreciate it

A lot of my friends do track days and I'd been "taking about" getting myself a track car for ages. One day I got a random text off a friend saying "I'm thinking of selling the 172, you interested" a few days later the deal was done. 10 months and several track days later I'm hooked and I've become addicted to a pretty expensive hobby. So much so with a pending house purchase I'll be going shedding for the daily to leave money for track days in the Clio until I get a promotion.

Endlessly

Went to buy a carpet came home a new Impreza Turbo instead
Drove past a dealer with a V8 Falcon ute on the forecourt, stopped for a quick look and owned it half an hour later
Saw a Mini with two air intakes on the bonnet and a for sale sign in the window, didn't need it but took it round the block and handed over my money
Chatted casually with a mate about Cinquecento Sporting's, bought one the following day
I was backpacking round the world, got to New Zealand and wandered through a car fair for something to do, ended up buying a 280 SE Mercedes and an MX5 on the same day
Went to look at an old V8 BMW X5 for mate last month, started it up and thought "I'm having this"

It's a disease

I did this a couple of months ago...took a test drive in a Tesla Mdel S and was totally blown away. Put down a £2k deposit there and then on a £70k car..on 6 month delivery (one of the first 4wd versions). I've never been one for new cars, but this is a total game changer and a bit of clever man maths on putting it through the business (100% 1st year capital allowances) did it for me! Can't wait to add it to the garage...

Yep, summer 2008. Had lost four family members in the preceeding 18 months, my wife missed her BMW convertible that I sold a year before and my Mustang was getting on for five years old.

Sod it, went out and ordered a brand new Mustang convertible. Still got it.

Saw an advert, thought 'why not', made a phone call, went to see it, bought it that day.

'It' being a 140k mile 911 convertible, and 'that day' being yesterday. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

Back when I still had impulsive thoughts (and hair) my commute was going up from 3 miles each way down country lanes to 30 miles each way up the Motorway.
So I swapped a perfect for the job (library pic)
